Did some rearanging in the house and some cleaning. Decided to organize some of the literature a little.

one of two book shelves. This one is for two specific topics. The other shelf will be for everything else.



I am sure a few people will like at least one of the books in this small stack..



Also found a good use for old Summit catalogs.

We busted some guys trying to steal some cable at work today. they came in today just to steal copper. not sure what my boss is going to do. the cable they were trying to cut with a masons chissel is at least $27/foot, but could be as high as $60/foot depending on brand and supplier. they already had 30-40 feet off the spool by the time we found them. ****ing thieves.

One of the crappy things about it is that I do believe that the cable came out to the job in pre cut lengths. That would mean that the one they tried cutting is only good for scrap now. The general contractor ( it is my understanding that they supplied all the cable) can only hope to recover some of the loss by scrapping it out, but it will still be a huge loss for them. The more my boss thought about it the more irritated he got. He is still debating what to do. A bit late to go to the police now, but I am sure that a few phone calls could probably get the two guys black listed on most jobs in the area.

Something should be done to label them as thieves. Too bad the police couldn't be involved because they could recover the damages through the court possibly.

Its up to the boss, but if he decides to out them as thieves the financial loss from not being able to work in the area will be far greater than trying to take them to court. Chances are that nobody would ever actually collect from them anyways.

Wait a minute, if you're technically already a journeyman how can you graduate?

Don't know if I mentioned it in the past, I might have. But I was in the carpenters union for 1.5 years. Even got full rate for a job because they liked me.

I dropped out due to arthritis and I felt I couldn't do the job.

Congratulations sir. For me it was a trip to the hall to pay the remainder of my first year dues (first year is reduced, but has to be paid up when you top out) and the status upgrade "fee". Graduating from apprentice to Journeyman is a huge accomplishment.

Yes. The # you could fill would depend on the tank's compressed volume. 22ft^3 @ 2-3,000psi would fill an @**load of tires to 40psi.

Thanks. Graduation was a little disappointing.

There was a 4th year apprentice that got his jaw broken in the hall parking lot by an older journeyman about a year ago. He was asking for it..... SRSLY.

Anyway, they graduated him (even though he is a year behind the rest of us) and awarded him with the highest honor (valedictorian-type) and perfect attendance (which he did not have) , I guess in fear that he was attempting to sue the local.

Kind of took the prestige out of the whole ceremony. I poured my heart and soul into my five years..... Even took extra nights for which I received no credits, and won the state level competition, only to be overshadowed by this scumbag.

And did I forget to mention that he married a popular official of our hall's daughter about a month ago. /rant

Unfortunately these are dirty union politics, and I'll just have to get used to it without affiliating myself with it. It was just kind of a rude awakening.

My parents witnessed the amount of sacrifice I gave the last five years and it was kind of embarrassing to be treated like a ghost in front of them.:sadbanana:

I know the feeling. I am an outsider in my L.U. and have had to suck it up and not say things about preferential treatment. I treat my time with my current contractor as an achievement. I have had an good run with them and appreciate the opportunity to work for them, but I know my place in the company and Union.

Remember, Unionism is nepotism.

You just can't WhiteKnight your way to the top in this industry. The long lineage of back-scratching, bribery and politics will always control things from behind the scenes. Breaks my heart. It's a conflict of my own pride.

The d¡ck-sucking runs deep and I refuse to indulge. That alone will prevent me from ever running big jobs or securing any of the official positions I'd like to serve at the local, but it won't prevent me from providing top rate craftsmanship in the field, and that will keep me well employed.

Lots of suck pumps work around me. I get by on my work. I have made more than a few foreman happy by the job I installed for them. Pecker puffing and office politics are not my prefered areas of expertise. I deal with it and appreciate my time with my contractor. When my time is up I will accept it gracefully and deal with the potential 2 years out of work in my own local.

Politics and BS everywhere. I had to graduate without my best friend. She dragged me through 2.5 years of nursing school when I wasn't dragging her. We were a team. Her fiancée committed suicide over Christmas break and she had a hard time with it. Needless to say they kicked her out with 6 weeks to graduation based on attendance. And most of the missing days were funeral related. She had amazing grades despite it. Meanwhile we have these kiss-asses barely making the cut that graduated.
