So I'm in a rental Chevy Captiva, which GM is paying for. That's the good part.
The bad: dealership is still confirming the diagnosis. No word yet on part availability.
The UGLY: Do not, under any circumstance ever rent a Chevy Captiva. It's fleet-only for GM and for a good reason. Terrible seating (my back actually hurts now after 25 minute drive), terrible interior, terrible transmission and terrible engine. It's a 2.4 and is completely gutless in a 3800 pound(!) CUV. The trans is far worse than most autos and doesn't know what it's doing.
TTAC review I read, stated that when they rented it, they got 200 miles from roughly 13 gallons of gas. That's horrendous; I might as well drive a Silverado to Chicago.
The horrible economy was attributed to lack of power, forcing the engine to downshift up to 2 gears, just to stay at 80mph. Sadly, most of my drive will be at 80mph.
Oh well, at least I have a car so I can get to the office. They didn't have any other cars but the Impala and the Captiva on the lot, and now that I checked, I'd been better off with the Impala, as it gets better rated highway gas mileage.
P.S. I got 26 mpg driving it in almost ideal conditions on the way home - 55 mph country road with a light ever few miles. Accelerated gently.
