Take away the hippy and ritsy areas, and it's a great place. Offers a ton out outdoor activity possibilities year-round with lower temps than Texas. The access to the mountains is awesome for hunting, camping, etc. Yes, they are on the fault line, yes their gun laws are a bit strange, but overall, it's a pretty good state to live in.

Yeah, those would be a serious consideration, but it's not an end all be all. I would even go to somewhere like Vermont, but there aren't job opportunities there for me right now

There are its downfalls, especially being a loft downtown. The biggest being there is no designated parking, all of it belongs to the businesses that the apartments reside over. A couple weeks ago I was in the middle of a three in a row night charge shift and woke up to banging on my door at noon so I could move my car for a delivery. I was pretty livid and unfortunately the guy got the worst side of me the second day because it wasn't just me but my coworker neighbor too.
Bonus is I have an excellent landlord who is on my every maintenance whim, right away. Rent is cheap, parking is usually in a place where your average joe would have to search hard to find your car.
Oh, and two of my downstairs neighbors are CarQuest and Bumper to Bumper
Having just come from a homeowner's lifestyle, I am honestly relieved to be relieved of so much responsibility at the moment.

The constant noise aside, which only became a serious issue the last 2 years we lived there, there were parking issues as well.
For example, no one had assigned spots which didn't matter because we had tons of spots which was nice. However, when you go out and shovel your car out and make a beautiful parking spot after getting 2 feet of snow and then some piece of **** who didn't shovel anything but enough to get out parks there when you go to work it really sucks.
I honestly don't know how someone could be low enough to do such a thing but it happened repeatedly.

I'm sure I will be the only one sweeping the snow off our back deck area and stairs, and there are a lot of stairs! I'm hoping that the businesses keep their parking pretty well cleared out.

For me, I hate it because all of the apartment buildings I lived in long ago smelled like POVERTY.
If you're wondering what poverty smells like, it is the permeating odor of stale cigarette smoke and fried food that will hang out in the shared hallways of the buildings - like a dirty vagrant silently watching, wishing to rifle through your clothes and touch everything nice and clean you own.
Well, that's how I saw it anyway.
