The heart is a beautiful thing... If I ever move somewhere big enough I'd really like to specialize in cardiology and do cardiac rehab for post MI patients. I've seen runners who have trouble with passing out when they get too relaxed because they have such low heart rates.
My heart at rest in the early morning will be about mid 50's. Sometimes low 50's, but that's rare.
I was sitting in the cardio office yesterday, and the nurse took my pulse. I asked her what it was and she's like "nice and low 68". Dang, 68 is somewhat high.
I was even more surprised to learn that docs consider a range of 60-100 beats per minute normal. What the hell - if you're sitting watching TV, no way your heart should do 100 beats a minute.
The reason they have a huge range is because America is fat.opcorn:
I'm so glad that the days have cooled off. The mornings are now in mid-60s and the weather during the day is so much better. I can go out for a hike and not soak my shirt with sweat.
Can't wait for 'winter' to do more camping. I've not backpacked in a few months, since it's been so brutally hot. This heat is really limiting where I can go, mostly because I need to stick by bodies of water, to ensure the dog doesn't overheat. He was close to heatstroke about a month ago, and it was too close of a call. Luckily I was watching him for it and caught it in time.
American normal is generally overweight in most of the Western world. Unless a male is well over 6 feet, they shouldn't weight at or over 200 lbs.
Our problem is fairly simple - we consume tons of sugar (mostly through soft drinks) and genetically-modified foods as well as foods stuffed with hormones and antibiotics. All those invisible factors add up over years.
The shift to organic is picking up speed. People are getting educated. I remember reading an article that was astonishing - it listed a few hormones and chemical additives we widely use in food today, which have been banned from use in most of the civilized world.
I'll see if I can find the article, where it lists these chemicals and explains their purpose and side effects.
Either pay more for organic food now, or pay more for heath issues later.
Doesn't matter if you pay more now for the Organic because you will still pay more for insurance later because all of the people that are still eating this trash they call food......
Pay now, pay later, the American way right?
