Should be ok as it has similar suspension tweaks to the Sonic RS.
The article makes no mention of fuel grade level; I suspect it uses premium.
197 SAE should fall around 170-175 at the wheels. I am 172 at the wheels, with some mods, such as SRIntake and cat-back exhaust. My dyno was taken in untuned form but before the ecu had a chance to dumb down.
Although I won't change if the 2015 Sonic has the 1.6 turbo, I do look forward to comparisons when it does.

According to the GM PIDs I'm at 212.42 ft lbs of torque, While that's crank HP and not on a dyno, GM's torque estimations have been proven to be very accurate.
that's with a 93 oct tune, intake, DP, ported intake mani and open exhaust after the stock midpipe and 2nd cat.
Yeah I'm not worried about the fiesta ST and with all my mods (engine, chassis, suspension, etc) I'm still going to have less than $19,000 total invested for my sonic. Oh and still get 40mpg almost every tank and can comfortably fit 4 adults.
I buy cars to fit a need. The Sonic's role was an MPG commuter that could fit my friends comfortably. After that handling prowess and power was on the agenda, looks were a long way down the list (sonic didn't disappoint but I didn't really care). Sonic was the best fit for all my needs and wants , qualifying better than cars several classes up.

Yesterday I pulled up to a 4 Lane Roadway (55mph Zone) waiting to get out, i look and see a gap and pull out and start going, and see a Ford Fiesta Base model, come up and pass by me as im accelerating, but the minute i hit 40 i was pulling on it easily, ended up walking all over it easily as i went from 40 to 60mph. I mention this as i have the 1.8L auto and I easily caught up to and passed this fiesta that was already doing the speed limit. I love my sonic! I never did more than 3k rpms the whole time. Just shows how weak the fiestas are. At least the lower model ones.

Test drove an 11 Fiesta last week, and I'm buying it this week. Wife gets the Sonic. Decision was made based on fuel economy mostly.
When we originally went subcompact shopping, the thing that impressed me the most about the Sonic was the backseat in the hatch. The cool styling was a bonus, as was the EPA 35 MPG (haha). Attractive factory incentives on a remaining 12 made the deal happen.
After driving both, I find the two cars very comfortable (I'm a skyscraping 5'8.5"), with a few differences. The Ford feels more crowded, yet more sporty. Ride is a little softer, but it has the same sporty handling as the Sonic. I also find the dual-clutch auto to be less sloppy feeling the the Sonic's auto.
And yes, this one is in sinus infection green.
Net of what I'm trying to say is both are super economy cars (I once owned an 86 Dodge Omni), and if you don't need to worry about backseat inhabitants, then either is a great option.
I regretted giving up the mileage of the Fiesta for the Sonic. Now I'll have both.

I purchased my RS from Wally Edgar Chevy, just down the road from the assembly plant. Couldn't be happier with it.
