Fuel Filler Door/Cap Not Lockable… Even on LTZ

Fuel Filler Door-Lock

The Asian-Made Sonics/Aveo's/ and the Holden Barina's seem to have this feature (along with the Spark). My previous car, the smart fortwo also had that feature.

The US decided to take a different route and use an "anti-syphon" device located near the bottom of the filler neck (so I was told). I just didn't like the idea of somebody opening up my filler cap. So I bought a lockable fuel filler cap from Stant.

I had bought an International Driver's License, but being born & raised using LHD, I was too scared to drive RHD and accidentally drift to the wrong side of the road, haha! :eek:
We definitely want to return back down there. You Aussie's are absolutely Amazing! :D

The smart fortwo is great if you live in an urban area and parking is at a premium.
But for freeway driving (especially over those expansion joints), they ride rough! You feel every single road imperfection and bumps.
The semi-automatic shifting was something I just couldn't get used to (you'd have to test drive one to understand what I'm talking about), and the distance to get to my local smart dealer (mine was over 60 miles one-way), to have the car serviced was not something that I looked forward to.
If you're thinking about a smart fortwo, I'd highly encourage you to try a Chevy Spark instead. You can seat 4 in a Spark and as you know, Chevy dealers are practically everywhere!
To be quite honest, I'm couldn't have been happier that I traded-in my smart fortwo for the Sonic hatchback!
I bought my smart fortwo cabrio (top-of-the-line) new in 2008 for about $18,500. I don't know what they're running new now.
That's my own personal opinion.

I never considered a smart car a smart choice based on all the things you said plus other stuff I had read about previously.

Some of the base models don't even come with AC from what I read, and the gas mileage was about 40 mpg which didn't seem to be that great. For a car that size, it should be more like 50+ for all the other luxuries you're giving up (like a back seat).

Plus I would never want to get into a wreck in one of those things. Def too small for comfort.

When I bought mine new in 2008, I believe A/C was standard in the "Pure," "Passion," and "Cabrio."

Like the Spark, the aerodynamics (tall height and short length), robs the vehicle from better mpg ratings. The smart fortwo was designed for European small roads and crowded cities. It really caters to a few select individuals.

Safety has always been an issue at Daimler. The safety cage (the patented Tridion safety cell) is one of the best ever designed. That said, the law of physics cannot be defied. While the car may withstand a beating, I'm not sure the people inside would fair as well.
The interior size of the fortwo is quite large for a vehicle that small. But the ride is horrible! It is definitely designed for "City Dwellers" where parking is at a premium (think New York City or San Francisco).

If the Chevy Spark had been available in 2008, I would have (at that time), opted for it instead of the smart fortwo cabrio.

Yeah spark def seems like a bigger win than the smart car if you're looking for a city car.
