you can buy quick retro kits from TheRetrofitSource.com Both the Mini H1 and Mini D2S will fit in the Sonic's headlights and mount through the original bulb hole. Quality is beyond great!

I'm running 10k in my headlights, not blinding at all and I've checked having other people drive my car from a distance towards me... I have the harness so no complications with daytimes(low voltage, etc) I bought a quality kit from a reputable company and it works just fine not bothering a soul.

When i had my focus i didn't buy a retrofit kit. All i did was buy aftermarket OEM style headlights that had black bezels.

You don't need projectors, but performance and appearance will greatly improve with them. Some install hids in their reflectors and call it a day. Others aim them down to account for the light scatter (why get HIDs then?) That's half-a$$ing to me. To each their own but:

I just had an 6K hid kit with capasitor installed so i still have my drl functionality and no flickering. Everything cost me only $120.
