I find it will sometimes not take but then on the second break it will take.
So I just pump my breaks after the stop.
I'm not aware of any adjustment. It is computer controlled to engage above a certain grade. And it works in reverse also. Perhaps my second "bump" just shakes the sensors and that causes the engagement.

If GM suggested this to me I would respond with "So when I'm stuck in stop and go traffic for 5-15 minutes on a hill every morning you want me to pump my brakes every time I stop every 6-10 seconds?" I know you're just saying what you have found and its all good. I'm just saying that really shouldn't be necessary to make something they advertise work.
I'm usually in stop and go traffic on 2 or 3 different hills every morning and sometimes going home. I just treat it like the novelty doesn't exist and I drive it like all of my past cars. If I'm on a super steep hill I'll cheat and use the parking brake as well. Mind you, it wouldn't even be a concern if people don't feel the need to almost touch my bumper whenever stopped in traffic.
