Headlights not working, regardless of dial setting

Both headlights are out, even in manual on position on the dial, tried the power on/off turning it all the way to the left too. Brights work fine, as do amber bulbs. Troubleshooting steps?

Try buying a new bulb? Check the fuses ?

Either bulbs or wiring. I don't think it'd be a fuse if your blinkers and high beams are working.

could be in the switch too.... remove the non working bulb, the filament still in place? (don't get fingerprints on the glass bulb)...

One bulb is fried, the other filament is intact and the only odd thing is a small burn mark on the side. Gonna try replacing the blown one and see if it really is a hardware issue. It could be a massive coincidence both blew at the same time, or one caused the other to overload somehow.

Well both new bulbs work. I have never seen a bulb fail with its filament still intact. Maybe the same company that makes our sway bar end links owns Sylvania, that is at least the second time I have replaced both.

Weird, the gauge cluster is supposed to display a code number when a headlight goes out.

I had a set burn out very much the same way. Left headlight went out on the way to work one morning and the right one burned out 10 miles later.

Used my fogs to get the rest of the way there. Never have I seen a set burn out quite that way.
Replaced the bulbs that evening and they worked no problem. Weird.

This same thing happened to my 15 sonic rs. The bulbs were ok however the connectors the bulbs plug into were completely fried... I replaced the connectors with heavy duty ones. I haven't had any problems since.
