Heater problems

My 2012 Chevy Sonic mostly blowing cold/lukewarm air.
I contacted dealer, but I am not under warranty. I drive 50 minutes each way to work, and so I am past the 36,000 miles.
Heater does not blow hot air, whether driving on highway or doing light driving. Sometimes the air gets lukewarm, but then gets cold again.
Doesn't matter how long I am driving.

I feel your pain, i have the same commute and i was having the same issues. Have you checked the coolant level? Mine was very low for some reason, added some Dexcool started the car and let it idle with the fan and heat on max. That worked the air out of the system and now i have face melting hot air.

Heater Problems

I started having this problem yesterday. Heater blows warm for maybe a few minutes, then blows nothing but cold air. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. This is the third Chevy i've owned with some kind of major problem with in the first two years of ownership. I'm seriously considering switching brands at this point. Of course i'm just past warranty.

It was almost bone dry. Dealer said there is a leak in one of the lines and will cost me 350 to fix. Needless to say i have to pay bc I'm 2k over my miles and the dealer wouldn't work with me on the price at all. I highly doubt I will ever buy another Chevy.

Since this is an enthusiast forum I have to comment on crazy dealer repair cost. Part of the forum group, like myself have disassembled many areas of there new sonic while it seems others do not work on there cars at all.
Some advice, nothing is beyond an owners ability to do repairs or at least diagnostics that will assure you that you are getting a fair deal at the repair shop, dealer or other. Get out the tools, do some research and have some fun repairing issues on your Sonic. It is very rewarding to have solved a problem at very little or no cost. There is an enormous supply of talented knowledgeable people on this forum that are always willing to help with data.

Looks like my 2012 Sonic is afflicted with the same issue. Luckily it is still under warranty by 500 miles. Coolant level is low, which is strange since it was fine ~2000 miles ago. I'm going to top it off and drop it off at the dealership on Thursday to get fixed. I've now had issues with the squeaky clutch pedal, end links, clunks while turning, windshield washer motor dying and now this. I'm honestly pretty frustrated with the car.

2012 Sonic heat issues

My 2012 Sonic started blowing hot and cold while driving. Checked the coolant, and it was a bit low. I topped it off, then let it idle for awhile. Now, while idling, it blows lukewarm. When I rev it up over 1500 rpm, then it blows hot. Any ideas?

System is still low and has an air pocket. There is a specific procedure to fill the system.
Then get with the dealer as you may very well have a water pump leak covered under TSB at no charge.
