Your experience with your tires isn't the norm. We have two Sonic's with the same 17" Hankook tires. Both vehicles tires' hold air pressure well, and the tread wear is as expected. I'm curious as to why your tires prematurely failed to provide you with reasonable service. Some of the factors contributing to premature tire failures are operating with too low or too high pressures: improper alignment; adverse road conditions/hitting potholes etc. Could any of these factors have contributed to your early tire replacement experience?
Honestly, I felt like we had defective set. I've never had as much trouble as with those. I can say that we drove the car off the lot with 18 miles on the odometer. Brand new. As far as I knew, pressure came set from the factory therefore when we started getting the pressure light come on I dealt with it IMMEDIATELY. this was the first new car for us in a long while, we have been very good to her. Since those tires have been gone, no more trouble. Although if I knew then what I know now, I would have opted for lower profile tires.
these Kumho tires are TALL. lol. And as the weather turned a little colder, light came on, but since I have warranty I took it in to discount tire, only to find out the last guys who patched and rotated them had them inflated too low (which was the reason for a recent hydroplane-holy crap!) so glad I decided to check it out carefully. Ok so there's my long story. Hah.

I'm @ 47k on the stock 15's and still have plenty of meat left. Will likely replace the fronts in a few months as I was lazy and never rotated them.
What are people doing that are destroying them in as little as 12k miles!? I could see aggressive driving doing it in 25-30K, but 12K?

I guess I drive somewhat spiritedly at times. Here and there I like to take turns fast. Not screaming tires fast, but quick.
I'm on my second set of tires (General Altimax) and my front ones are about 2-3mil from the wear bars. The set has been rotated once and I'm about to rotate it again. 42k miles on the car, about 25k on the first set of OEM rubber.
I might get another 10k out of the set - 6 months or so.

I agree that spirited driving can cause your tires to wear a bit faster but not in 12k miles, unless our are running really soft compound rubber tires. I like to take curbs at speed also, squealed tires a time or two. I keep the tires inflated properly and have them rotated when I change my oil.

I have almost 13k on the stock 15's and I drive the piss out of them. Almost all city miles with frequent starts and stops. I think I have about half tread left. So I don't understand how anyone could get less than 20k out of the stock hankooks without something being defective on them. I have rotated them 3 times already I'm sure that helps. With all the city miles I drive I like to keep them rotated.

I changed the tires on my 2012 at 72k with 5/32" of tread left. That was after 2 Friday nights at the local drag strip.

That's only 50% tread wear in 72,000 miles. The tread depth new is 10/32".

That's what I measured and was also measured by Discount Tires when I bought a new set.

I wasn't doubting what you said. I know others have had similar results.
That is very good service life, considering where you live has a lot of hot weather.

I think the stock Hankooks are fine in the rain, but in the snow they are absolutely garbage, got stock in my own driveway in 3" of snow, plus other issues.
I have hankook i-pykes for winter and they are absolutely great.
Car only has 18,000 miles, probably 5,000 on the winter tires/wheels and 13,000 on the stock wheels and tires.

Thanks. I'm not hard on my tires like when I was younger. I was lucky to get 25k from a set!
Four word Story:
Tail of the Dragon.
Roasted my fronts in 66 miles worth of wheel spin and glory. That would have been avoided if I were any sort of competent driver. I did get better the last few passes though
