if the DDM charge hoses are similar to stock, then I would it be possible just to use the stock hoses and replace the intercooler?

the stock hoses have clips that hold them in place not hose clamps.. so you wouldnt be able to use the stock hoses on a new intercooler i wouldn't think

i don't want to say you couldn't, but it would take some work to make it happen for sure. Also you would have to adapt from the stock rubber hose to the intercooler inlet, and also make it reach, etc. However, I am sure it could be done, just probably not pretty.

Max. Why replace the intercooler and leave on the stock hoses? If you are going to be tracking the car you will def want the better tubes. You are defeating the purpose of the upgraded intercooler with the stock lines. You would be better off just using your stock IC with upgraded tubes and the diverter

Really? I think upgrading the core will have a greater effect compared to upgrading just the hoses. I haven't done any testing tho. So that's just my opinion

Yes but the upgraded core will be worthless with the rubber hoses attached to them. And if your gonna dish out the bucks for the core, the added cost of the tubes is really not much.

The cooling affect of a better intercooler will still be there, bigger core, more fins, ect. giving you a cooler charge. But, it will be chocked if the stock charge hoses are decent amount smaller than the upgraded DDM hoses and your flow rates wont be maximized with a larger inter more efficient intercooler.

You are correct, but the stock size tubes are plenty big enough for the air the stock turbo is moving and even more then that.

The biggest thing with using the stock tubes is going to be adapting the ends to work on anything but the stock intercooler. The ends are very specific to the stock intercooler and will have to be cut to work, then you will need a tube coupler and another adapter to go to a different intercooler. I am sure someone is going to do this, but we are trying to get the pricing on the base kit as low as possible so that it is easy to install, performs well and is a complete kit.

Here ya go:

I can see about making a conversion kit to adapt between our new intercooler and the stock charge tubes. Shouldn't be that hard to do, just would need to cut the tubes back and then we can have a hard tube to join them after the 90 degree bend. It should work for those that do not want the full tubes and just want the intercooler upgrade.

Thanks for the pics. Those connectors look like you should be able to carefully cut the metal with a Dremel longitudinally and reveal a standard hose underneath without losing too much length.

Let the testing begin -

This is the latest prototype intercooler, shrouding and tubing that we are going to start testing next week. I will get some logs of the runs and see how it does. Basically this is as large of an intercooler you can fit between the bumper and the bottom of the car and it is as wide as the grill opening, should do the job nicely

No pricing yet, have to make sure all of this will work, then will have some pricing, but should be in the $400-500 range for the intercooler, charge tubes, silicone connectors, T-bolt clamps and shrouding.

FYI - I looked into this and it ends up being approx 1.75" ID when you cut back the rubber hose enough and the angle is a little weird going from the stock rubber to the intercooler we are testing. So it can be done if you insert a 1.75" tube into the stock rubber hoses, then get a reducing coupler to go from the 1.75" to the intercooler. The angle is not off by much, but a slight bend in the hard connector between the 2 would work also and probably make it work. The hard tubes we are using in the intercooler kit are all 2" FYI.
