The cores will be built by 2 different companies, depending on which core we go with and which options we go with. One company makes the bar and plate and one company makes the higher priced extruded cores.

The tubes will be available in the standard colors we offer (Black, Red, etc) Also the silicone will be available in Black, Red and Blue.

Can you clarify the differences between a "bar and plate" design vs. Extruded Core(tube/Fin?) intercoolers? I searched but found many different articles with misinformation and a bunch of forums with flame wars on the subject.

Dave- thanks for the heads up. I think I would pay a little more for the extruded core, depending on how much more power it provided than the bar and plate. Get some testing done asap!

Neither intercooler will give you more power. They will just reduce intake temps which will cause less power to be robbed by heat

Yeah but the stock IC will probably provide similar air temps (and power) on the first pull, before it gets heat soaked. The larger is good for real-world conditions and multiple pulls, back to back. It will be tough to show good results on a dyno.

A larger intercooler can soak up more heat before the temps start to rise and also is able to disappate that heat faster to keep temps down. As intake temps start to rise the air becomes less dense and also the ECM starts to pull timing, both of those reduce engine power.

Sometimes an intercooler can increase power, if the stock system at the flow rate and pressure is becoming a large pressure restriction and the new intercooler is a lot less of a pressure restriction. In this case, replacing the intercooler with the lower restriction can produce additional flow into the engine, producing more power. This is typically not the case, but is one of the things we are collecting data on with our tester.

The car did pretty good, taking 8th place overall against 39 cars total, here are the results -

Final Raw Time Results, #3 - 03_09_2013 - 3/9/13

Not too bad, considering the 1st and 2nd place car is a highly modified supercharged miata, the other miata's were on Star Specs with suspension work, the 914 and Neon were both on race slicks and Speckles is a Spec Miata. So our little tester hung in there pretty well against some serious autocross cars.
