manual trans. noise

I have a growl in 5th and 6th gears. i have 42000 miles on it. all stock, but a k&n. the noise started about 40000. i took it to the dealer and they heard the noise and call GM who told them that it was a "normal" noise and there were no problems with the trans. I have looked on this board and see several people have had the same problem. If you have had or are having this problem could you please let me know. i would like to go to GM with the info and try to get them to replace mine. I cant believe it is normal to have a noise start at 40000.

There seems to be a trend that people are really having to try hard to get things fixed from GM.

Now, I know in almost all cases things are getting fixed/repaired/replaced, but it seems like the constant harping on an issue is needed in a lot of cases.

How many threads are there that read "my car developed this, dealer said its fine."

Seems like its difficult to find the good dealers that care about what they are selling out there and that the customer is almost a nuisance to them.

Most of this issue is dealer specific, and people normally don't vent how great their dealer experience was. That is why you will see more complaints verses happy posts.

I do agree with this.

Most people arent going to post something praising a a dealership for basically doing their job. On the other side like you said they will get vocal about things not done right.

The dealer I got my Sonic from was the best car buying experience I ever had. They have been completely professional in every way thus far. I even went online and wrote a review on the sales staff.

It does seems like there are some pretty crappy dealerships out there though.

The dealer down the street from me was pretty much not of any help to me.

I ended up finding what I wanted over an hour away, and they even asked about it when they saw my address. They were great and figured if they can take care of me they could have me referring my friends and family to them in a whole new area where they usually dont get many customers from.

Word of mouth and now with internet reviews and such is a huge thing. Like you said, you think every dealership would love to help you out because that is what drives mroe business.

It can go both ways. Some dealers aren't all that great, while some owners aren't all that great either. We're all people, so if an owner comes in with an issue and right away they are in a foul mood, they will usually get the same type of attitude in return.

Maybe I've been lucky, but so far, GM and my dealer have provided me an awesome experience when something's gone wrong, which it has. I've had a bunch of things replaced on the Sonic, however the experience has been better than my prior non-GM experiences.

just some info on my car. it took over 6 months and a lot of trips to the dealer, then switching dealers and the gm rep on here Erica Tiffany was a huge help on getting it taken care of. gm did put a new trans in my car and i can tell you that it is so much better now. you don't realize how bad it is until it is changed. for some reason my clutch petal works so much easier. the shifter no longer moves 2-3 inches with the gas pedal. the shifter moves so easy and effortless. i recommend that if you are having problems just keep after them. it is well worth it.. and again a huge thank you to Erica Tiffany for her help with this problem..
