If it was popular in the TDI Forum, it was likely Bullsh*t, because VW owners are a bunch of bullsh*tters.
I'm sorry, your VW doesn't get 65mpg. How do I know this? Because go look at the reporting stats on fueleconomy.org. It's just not happening......
It is post like this that make me
I took my 2003 Jetta wagon on a few road trips to Myrtle Beach. Each time I did it in one tank, over 800 miles which included cruising Conway and the beach area. Going around 70-75 mph I was getting 55 mpg. If I babied it on the highway at 65 mpg and hypermiled for the beach area 60 mpg was totally possible. Once I got my 2006 dialed in 48 to 51 was the norm on my commute to work. The 2006 was larger, heavier, and more powerful. There are guys that go to extremes to get the best mpg, from hypermiling and fuel mixes.
If find the non believers just can understand going 700 to 900 miles a tank. But, when you drive it, and assume the fuel gauge is broken it becomes an amazing reality. Don't hate if you never drove one of those oil burners. Check my fuelly and click Hans Gruber. You can even see in the chart where I figure out the in town hypermiling. The newer TDIs aren't what they were. If you could somehow find an ALH TDI with low miles, filling would be bi-monthly.
Btw, was I full of it when I was in the top 20 and most of the models from the same generation were much lower? Please...
