I cant find any information on who made the Z-spec grills. I've talked to my local dealer, and they couldn't find any info. Although he was very helpful in showing me GM website with their Z-spec mirror caps/accent kit.
Main reason, they are prototypes! Probably 1 off custom machined grills. They probably cost over $1000 a piece. Why would I know this? I work for a prototyping company. Our prototypes go for up to $30K for something which may end up only costing $700 in production. When you do not have tooling, its usually expensive.
So.....with that said, what can I bring to the table? Complete 1 off grills with mounting clips and the works. Sure, but you would pay well over a grand. Or I try and come up with a cheaper alternative which may require a weekend of cutting up a doner grill for an install. I would gladly machine out your take offs and install if anyone feels this is too daunting of a task.
Edit: My type 2 design is similar to that z-spec look, but still very different.

Thanks as well for the nice words. I was going to do a mustacheless grill as well, but the company in CA. might not have it done in time for SEMA so I did the mustach in carbon fiber to be different & tie in with front end & interior look. Might do mustacheless grill look for 2013 SEMA show, but I'll decide next month if I'll do a another Sonic, or stick to my plan doing GMC truck &/or Spark for GM.

I have zero personal interest in designing a Spark grille. They already lost the stache" I own a Sonic, I love my Sonic, I'll just stick with designing stuff for the Sonic.
If GM likes my stuff and wants me to design for them, I will start packing my bags for Detroit tonight!
BTW I'm very proud of you guys. This thread made it all the way to page 5 before a slight veer in topic! Its hard to find threads that dont get derailed on here.

On topic, it sounds like beastlick is going to do these on a piece by piece basis. I'm sure if you're willing to pay he will build you which ever one you want. I like the texture of the "B-Spec" style myself.

You are correct. I have no $100K tooling to injection mold these so they will be machined and built to the order. The first proto will be the standard billet type purely due to how simple the stips are. As soon as I get it built and test the fitment, I can knock out the other style within a week.
These first runs will all be out of ABS but if anyone has interest in getting an aluminum version made, it can be arranged.
