My car glitched out again today :blankface:. NR552 was right. I believe the glitch can be caused by putting the car in reverse. It causes the radio to be set to the time in the pictures as well as the steering wheel control going fubar. Im gonna post a video of some of the things it does as well. Im using a Galaxy S3 on Bluetooth. That is only thing im connecting to the car. Im contacting my dealer tomorrow

The Dealer did not complete the Update correctly and reset the radio. Vehicle needs to go back and the will need to call TAC.... They will assist in correcting the issue.

Its at the dealer at the moment. I have a loaner. I read the service bulletin they had. sounded like the update they had would fix my problem. Ill find out when I get it back.

What does the update entail? What is all in it, did they add apps and things or is it just bug fixes and what not? I bought my Sonic in March, so would the update apply to me? I haven't heard anything from my dealership about it...

I bought mine in March as well (build date on mine is 01/13.) I have the old version. Go to the apps screen and see if it just shows Pandora and Stitcher, if so you have the old version. If you see Tune In and Bringgo you have the update.

They added Siri eyes free, Tune In and Bringgo navigation with this update along with some bug fixes. (supposedly including the fix of how it turns itself to XM channel 1 and so forth.)

I haven't heard from my dealer about this either. Actually, I haven't even received a 'hey howya doin' call from them since buying this thing. GM did send me an e-mail on April 9 when this update came out inviting me to contact the dealer to have this done, but no thanks...

Chris, it fixes a few radio software glitches where the car will hunt for a non existent rear view camera (and a few other things I cant remember) , it also adds two apps to your smartphone link. Call the dealer with your VIN and see if there is an open recall. They should be happy to let you know. It takes about an hour or so depending on if you had an appointment and if they're busy.

I do not believe the update is a recall. My memory is Sonics assembled after February 8 had the update. The dealers were told to perform the update on Sonics in their inventory that were assembled before that February date.

I doubt very many did.

Chevy originally reimbursed one hour but I think now two hours as the update is considered a warranty item.

But a good clue is ^ if you have four greyed out apps when you go to Smartphone then you have the updated MyLink but if there only two then you should get the update.

The term "recall" is used so loosely in the dealer world. There are recalls that are nothing more than a check to make sure something has the right part number (and 99.9% do). Hell, we have a "recall" on the Traverses that is 0.3 hour to make sure the radiator and coolant bottle are full! Some are pretty important though. The one about the Cruze steering wheel bolt missing was pretty interesting. Never actually seen one missing tho....

Regardless, the MyLink update pays 0.6 hour. I've had plenty of customer vehicles come in because they got a letter about a software enhancement update/recall.

Why do you doubt they did the recalls on their lot units? Its Gm basically handing the service department money. GM pays the dealer service dept 0.6 hours per program (plus an emissions sticker update that payed 0.2) x your Sonic/Spark inventory (in our case about 20 or so). That was almost 2 days worth of hours handed right to me!

Did some of you guys have to pay to get yours updated while under 3 yr/ 36 k warranty?

I can't speak for laborsmith's reasons, but here's mine: GM is supposedly handing the service department money to adjust trunk lids on the sedans prior to delivery too, but look at all of us here who took the car home with a misaligned trunk that was smacking the bumper and tail light. And ended up with paint damage. Had to adjust it myself since the dealer insisted it had to go to their body shop, it wasn't something they could do. I adjusted the lid and tail lights myself in minutes.

If they won't take the few minutes to adjust the trunk lid, for some reason I have my doubts they would want to take the effort to do a time consuming update process on MyLink. :banana: YDMV (Your dealership may vary.)

There were dealers saying this was customer pay work, not sure if the customer ultimately had to pay for it. If so, someone needs a refund.

In addition to ColonelPanic's point, there are posts where an individual bought a Sonic made before Feb 8 but obtained in March and April still needing the update AND there are posts where a Sonic owner had a dealer tell them the update was not covered by warranty but could be done for an additional charge AND there are posts where the dealer service staff flat out said no such update existed.

May not be enough to support my point but certainly indicative.

And there are WAY to many of these posts to necessitate my posting a link (or multiple dozens thereof). Just a cursory look at thread titles will reveal many of these posts.

Completely agree. Actually there is a special note on the pre delivery form that the tech is supposed to check off when its inspected that specifically says for the Sonic to check trunk lid fit and closing properly. And if not to adjust it. Dealers really do vary, kinda sucks there isn't more of a standard throughout....

I didn't think of it that way. We do all the work we can, warranty or not. We don't upsell warranty work for the most part, but if there is anything even closely considered a "recall" we do it no question, unless the customer declines it of course.

Cadillac does have a 3 hour CUE update (and they recommend the tech uses the time to do other misc recalls and service updates lol) - but again I cant imagine a dealer charging for it when the car is still under warranty. Even if there is no recall - the 3 yr bumper to bumper should cover any needed programming. I think even GMPP extended covers it too.

I gotta say its pretty interesting getting other peoples experiences from other dealers - but a little disappointing as well.

My experience seems to be unique. Dealer said i needed the update to prevent an issue with the rear view camera device not found. But i did not have this issue to begin with. My xm radio flicks back to the preview channel sometimes after an hour, sometimes after a day. It did this before and after the update! But i know the update was at least partially completed because i now have the faded Bringo icons on my display which were not there before the update. Unfortunately the Bring go icons say they are for other countries like Brazil and China! Nothing for USA. Does any of this make sense?

Update Gone Wrong

I brought my car in to check a cruise control issue and they informed me of a recall to update the mylink system in the car. I got the car back after three hours and now it says to have the rear camera serviced when I put the car in reverse. There is no camera in my car... Now I'm back at the dealer and the service tech doesn't seem to be real sure what to do. Also I noticed the only apps on the smartphone screen were the original Pandora and Stitcher apps, was it supposed to be like that or was I supposed to have the Bringgo app as well???
