My low tire pressure gauge came on today as well. The manual says that the light indicates that one or more of the tires are very under-inflated and yet at least to the naked eye they look fine. I haven't checked it yet but there's no way that any of them are drastically under-inflated. Let me know what happens for you.

Hi Mine,
Is the TPS indicator light staying on? If so, you should check tire pressure. Please let me know after you check. Hopefully, the monitoring system is working properly, if not, I would suggest having the dealer check.

Was there ever an answer for this? Maybe we could open up the dash and remove the light itsef (unless its an LED soldered in)? I keep looking at the onstar app (because I am obsessed I guess) and I am always at around 30/31 PSI on all tires regardless of the fact that I have had my tires inflated to 35 (twice). I would love to remove the light and not worry about it after the onstar expires. I even asked the dealer and I get the excuse that I shouldn't pay too much attention to that? Makes no sense if onstar is reading what the computer from my car is telling it?

I should, but I just can not, resist. This TPMS issue is just one of many reasons why I remain such a stalwart advocate of OnStar. (Joking, in case anyone wants to take this comment seriously.)
I sometimes wonder how we drivers were able to function before the advent of systems to tell us our tire pressure needed adjusting. Seems to me TPMS is a fairly recent development, I think going back to fifth generation Corvettes with their run-flat tires.

I believe in 07 active TPMS was mandatory on all cars in the U.S. (passive sytems used whl speed to determine a low tire)
I dislike TPMS sytems because ultimately I'm paying for the components and R&D of a sytem I don't want or need. I gots pressure gauge and compressor bro, lol.
If the lights coming on check the pressures yourself or a shop should do it for free... there is always the possibilty that your sensors are off spec or what onstar is getting is incorrect.... as a technician our first job was to verify the problem and that meant confirming there was actually a problem.. so if the lights on that would be the first thing to do is actually physically check the psi and go from there

The 2000 Caddy would be contemporary to the C5 Vette so I am sure it had it, particularly if equipped with run flats.

Well I for one can live without the sensors. I have been around cars alot of years and wish that I could just de-activate the TPMS light. I am very anal about things and will not put tape over it or just deal with it being on. I guess when my 6 month trial ends, I will not renew it. That takes away from me looking at it all of the time? If the light does not come on, I will not worry about it. An occasional aircheck and visual inspection will just have to suffice.

Check the spare pressure. Only a few vehicles have a spare sensor, but it is worth a shot. The style sensors on GM's use rubber stems (VS950 kits) thank goodness as opposed to metal stems that corrode and break. However that makes identifying if a wheel has a sensor in it a little more difficult. If you take off the valve cap look at the shank of the stem at the bottom of the threads. If it is flanged, it more than likely has a sensor, if it is threaded or straight to the rubber it more than likely is just a good old fashioned valve stem. Ford on the other hand decided to use a horrid banded design. They actually thought it would be a good idea to band the sensor to the inside of the wheel. A flashing TPMS light suggests an error with the system (missing sensor, cannot read the signal, not transmitting, etc.) A solid light indicates a low (or high in some cases) pressure.

My spare doesn't have TPMS. of course I got the tire inflation kit.

When reprogramming the TPMS you don't cycle to the spare tire, so my guess is it DOES NOT have one.
If your finding your tires are causing the light to come on when cold, you are under-inflated. You should be running 35 cold and 40 and up when "hot".
The tires themselves lend to a maximum of 44 I believe cold. If your maxing out the load of the vehicle I wouldn't hesitate to put a higher number in for high-speed highway travel, the more PSI, the more load you can place on the tire (generally). Hence truck tires when loaded being as high as 70psi or more on some models. I believe our sensors don't warn us until we're somewhere in the 20's or the tires are vastly different from each other.
Our light system also negates the need (unless using onstar) to reset the system at rotation, because the light only indicates a tire low, not which one, therefore you have to check them all to make sure. A 20psi-25psi tire looks good, but is not and hurts MPGs along with handling ability, especially in wet weather.
Do ultraguages and the like allow for TPMS PSI display? I'm guessing with a scan tool you can see it.

TMPS Question - Removing Tires
Hi everyone, I figured instead of starting a new thread for something that pretty much related to this subject anyways i would just ask my question here... since these newer cars have that tire monitor system on each wheel and i know when a tire rotation is done you have to reset the system. but my question is if you just remove the wheels so to say, Paint the rims and such and put them back on, will the TMPS Sensors need to be reset once put back on, or would they be fine as long as you put the tire back on where it came off of to begin with? aka, if front left tire was removed and put back onto front left and so forth would i need to reset everything aka do A Tire Learn on it? I just know i could paint my rims myself and save a tone of money. I just dont want to mess with the whole "Tire Learn" stuff if i dont have to. thanks

The transmitter in the tire just sends out a signal that's like an identification number for the computer to read and associate with a particular position. I can't see any reason that moving the tire away from the car and putting it back in the same position would cause you to have to relearn, as it would be the same number. Happy painting!!!

Sweeet Thanks! I figured i wouldnt have to do a relearn but thought i would ask to make sure. I have a very nice design in mind for my Stock Rims to give them a much better look and appearance. I like the stock 16" Design, they just need something to make them Stand out better. The flat grey doesnt cut it. Not sure when i will get around to doing it but if i can remove the tires myself and not have to do any relearns that will make it very easy for me to do this task myself. Plus it will make me feel good knowing i did it myself... Now to figure up how much paint i will need to do all 4 wheels and clear them. thanks again "Oldertech"!

I will for sure post pictures once i get it all done. As i stated though, dont expect it any time soon. May not even be until next year after winter i do it. idk. But when i do i will for sure post up pictures!
