on*star turning on by itself?

hi, has anyone experience their onstar just coming on on its own at random times? the one in my car ever since i bought it just random comes on and says something but i never can hear what it is because either i have music playing or there is alot of road noise at the time it chimes on. And each time it comes on i never touched any of the buttons. My hands no where near a button? i havent had any need to use it. Which is why im letting it expire next month. Why pay for a service i dont use or need. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. And it always seems to do it when its quiet in the car. Scares the crap out of you is what it does!

Its an automated reminder - "You have an important update about your OnStar account, please press the blue button". Essentially its auditory SPAM, them trying to get you to subscribe.

Normally it mutes the radio when it happens, don't know why it did not mute yours. This is one of the pleasant things one can look forward to hearing when driving an OnStar equipped vehicle during the trial period.

Thats what i figured it was for but i just thought i would ask around to make sure. I dont know why it didnt mute the sound either? got me. All I know is i dont travel enough and so forth to warrent having on*star in my car. If i get into an accident and cant call for help myself then it was just meant to be. Everyone has there time. when that is, is never known. but anywho, thanks for the information guys. I dont plan on renewing it as i said. I might just have the system ripped out once it expires so i dont have to worry about it chiming in at random times scareing the crap out of me lol. When your not expecting someone to be talking and then bam you start hearing voices it startels you

I would recommend contacting OnStar. The easiest way to contact them is by pressing the OnStar button on your rearview mirror and this will connect you with a live agent. I don't work directly with OnStar but they would be the best to discuss and resolve the issue you're experiencing.

I got that the other day. Driving to work with the radio off, still half asleep, it scared the crap out of me. Between all the letters they send and this, just leave me alone OnStar.

They send me a letter every two weeks since it's finally been activated. Always the same thing. Save some trees, damn it!

A month or two ago I was getting one a week. One week I remember I got two from them. They seem pretty desperate...

This is another reason that I won't buy OnStar. I'm paying for the damn car, I ought to be able to decide who I talk to. But OnStar doesn't let that happen - they have no problem with calling me to ask me to sign up. When they're making my payment, they can decide when I should talk to them.

On Star is nice to have but its not cheap and IMO it should be free for the first 3 years and then cost a lot less then it now cost. and I would like to add that the turn by turn can times leave much to be desired. Their turn by turn has given us the wrong directions several times so I will not be buying it (on star) after the trial.

The only thing I like about OnStar is the automatic crash response, but I'm not paying that much just for a feature I never plan on using.
