I have been having a rough time lately with my sonic and it sucks! I was driving with my wife roughly three weeks ago. We made it about 6 miles away from our residence and the engine overheating light began flashing and beeping. I immediately pulled over and turned off the engine. We made a call to our Chevy dealership for advice and they instructed us to bring it to a dealer ASAP. I took it to a GMC dealership that was approximately four miles away.
Fast forward to the next day and I get a call from the GMC dealer saying my car is ready for pick up. It turns out they did a "pressure test" and found a faulty radiator cap and replaced it.
All is well right? Wrong.
The next day we headed to the same destination that we attempted to go to the first time the car broke down. This time we made it about 3.5 miles before I felt the car shudder a bit. I pulled over and decided I would take a look at the oil. The dipstick was covered in a light brown gravy. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what that means.
This time I decided to take the car to a reputable Chevy dealership just down the road from the GMC dealership I had trusted to repair my car the day before. I showed the tech there the engine oil and he agreed my head gasket had blown. They put me in a nice '13 Cruze which he had said needed some air refilled in a tire.
No problem, I said. We drove off and within minutes I had a low air warning light come on. Got out and could hear air leaking from the tire. Lol!
I took the cruze back and they told me they didn't have anymore loaners available. We had to sit and wait on a Hertz representative to pick us up and take us to their office. It took us a couple hours to finally secure a Hyundai Accent at the dealerships expense.
Well, the dealer called me and said the engine block and head were cracked. A new engine was in need. I was fairly happy about getting a fresh engine in the car. A few days go by and the guy calls me again and says he has bad news. One of the cams on the NEW ENGINE is broken. Now they have to order a new camshaft which added around 4 more days to the process.
Now fast forward to today. I get a call in the morning saying the engine is in the car but there was a problem with a sensor. I never was told exactly what sensor it was. I was also told that the cooling fan doesn't seem to be working properly. He said he would call me later when everything is figured out. Cool...
I get a call today to come pick up the car. They said they road tested it and drove several miles to check it out.
Well when I get home I decide to let the car idle for a few minutes to see if the fan cuts on. Nothing. Even after idling for ten minutes after I had already driven home. I decided to take it for a spin down the road five or so miles. The fan still never turned on.
Now what do I do? I am SICK AND TIRED of messing with this car. I am truly disappointed as I have always been a loyal Chevy customer. My old Silverado has nearly 300,000 miles on it, but I'm getting a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to what is supposed to be a reliable brand new car.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I really want a different car. I shouldn't be having issues like this!
Its a 2012 LS sedan 1.8L.
TL;DR: I should've bought a Toyota.
