pops out of 3rd gear when accelerate??

2012 1.4 manual.... when i shift to 3rd gear and accelerate it pops right out of gear back to neutral what is this?

Man that would suck! I've never had that problem but if it isn't some sort of easy fix I would take it to the dealer right away.

Sounds like you need to see the stealer. Could be as simple as a cable adjustment

Does it happen ALL the time? I've had issues with 3rd. Most people seem to have a problem with 2nd gear, but on my car 3rd seems incredibly notchy. I have to make sure to not force it in.

Reminds me of Honda, who's infamous for 3rd gear popping out under accell. Frined of mine had that on his 06 TL - happened once in a while. He lived with it until the vehicle was traded in 40k miles later.

Never had that happen, and I push third really hard all the time. I did once go from 3rd to 2nd at 88mph, but that was operator error.

Do you have the original shifter bushings, or did you put DDM's in? The DDM's are much firmer, but of course it's possible that when swapping them in you messed something up.

Doesn't sound to me like you did the swap though, since you'd almost certainly have mentioned it as part of the problem report.

I have never had that happen with my Sonic, but like the Honda Hate, I did have that problem with my 06 and 09 Civic Si's. Just took some care to make it happen. The only problem I have had with the Sonic is the 1-2 shift.

Curious, do you have the 5 or 6 speed? I ask because I have the 5 and my third gear can be quite notchy at times; a while back I had a problem with it grinding but I've come to believe that it was me forcing it without realizing it because of some random stubbornness it has.

He has a 6... I also have a 5 and I to have noticed from time to time the 3rd will be notchy

I have the bushings which probably makes 3rd gear a little more "crunchy" feeling when it's cold. Seems better once it's warmed up. I'm changing to Redline MT-90 next which may or may not help.

they called today and said that its not shifter cables and they will put it on a lift tomorrow and start breaking her down

stopped by the dealer today and had a service guy look up whats going on.. he said special order for new transmission and no one has them in stock....

got the transmission in today but they have to inspect it because it might be damaged from delivery.. fingers crossed!! oh and they are gonna do my ky stage 3 clutch for $170 since its already apart
