Rough idle?

hello all, just had a quick question for my fellow sonic owners. i tried doing a search but couldnt find anything. I've noticed after starting my sonic 4dr LT auto and idling at say a traffic light, i get this weird idle and the car kinda shakes almost like someone tapped ya in the back. The first time it happened, i could have sworn i got rear ended at a slow speed, but i've noticed it does it all the time. I cant really say for sure if it happens more than once, or just once after each start. Anyone familiar with this ? or heard of it?

I've never heard of that. Have you contacted your dealer?

If its consistent, and happens every time, you should take it to the dealer. If not, you should keep a camera in your car recording while you drive, so you can show the tech what is going on. Best of luck!

Also, do you know what an EGR valve is? Can you perform a vacuum test? And, does it happen with the AC on? Might save you a trip, or at least arm you with knowledge before you go.

I had something similar. It stopped around 2500 miles. Haven't noticed the shudder since.

I just started noticing something like this happens more so with the A/C on though usually only when i'm in slow speeds like anything generally under 40mph. LS 1.8L with 11.5k miles

my 1.4T manual with 13K miles does it time from time not maybe such a big ****ter on mine but the RPM with like "search" up and down about 200 RPM but not every time....

brought it in to dealer, of course could not duplicate the issue. From what i explained to the tech he feels this is normal (he also owns a 2012 cruze and recalls something similar) and told me to take it back if it worsens....of course it made the "shake" feeling accompanied by the "idle hesitation" on the way home at a stop light. I do recall him saying something about these sonics actually shifting into neutral at a stop to preserve gas and this may be contributing to my issue............well i guess time will ........... now at 7k.

I read that they do shift to nuetral. I guess that is why the "hill hold" feature.

im guessing its a 2 to 1 down shift in the trans when stopped mine will do that if i use the thumb shift 1.8 auto

yeah i'm hoping its normal, its got 9k on it, still doing the same thing, i've also noticed that the idling (vibration also) in the car is quite noticeable at times at an idle........ again i hope these are normal things, i'm just not used to this........ my last car was an 04 vibe, had 180k on it and you could barely tell it was on when idling in park or neutral..........thanks!

Really rough idle

My car does the really rough idle thing. It's a 1.4 auto. I will come to a
light, stop completely, after a short pause there is a "click" from under the
car and then the shaking starts. Car only has 500 miles. It does it with the air compressor on or off, makes no difference. This is really getting on my nerves.

Sounds like you should schedule a trip to the dealer to have that looked at.

yeah, i'm bringing the veh back to the dealer on friday for the windshield washer recall, i'll have them check the idle thing again.... last time i was told it was normal (by the dealer and tech who said a similar thing occurs with his 2011 cruz). it now has 11k on it, still does it intermittenly at a stop and the idle is often very noticeable while sitting in the car with no radio on...........idk odd........but then again mayb its just a side effect of all these new safety and fuel improvements that gm has made ...
