SS = AWD? I think not!
Chevy has promised to not misuse SS in the future and I hope the company sticks to that promise. After all, when was the last time you saw a brand new Camaro SS AWD sitting on the Dealership's showroom floor?

Yeah but Camaro is already rwd. Sonic and Cruze are wrong wheel drive. So AWD would be an improvement and make it possible to actually put the power down.

AWD does not preclude using an SS badge, but should not in and of itself include using an SS badge. I know the post I commented on included an increase in power, but to me that too should not in and of itself include using the SS badge.

I did consider my 2005 Cobalt with the Quaife ATB differential and the Recaro seats to qualify for the SS badge; I am not one who says a car must be rear wheel drive using a high performance V8 engine to carry the SS badge.

Stopped by the Goodwrench shop and brought up the idea and what was told to me by Vanessa. The parts manager, Paul, is going to do some research on the platform and parts and get back with me sometime this week about prices. So not much of an update other than a shop saying that they would do it and do it right.

I know that most of the fwd to awd rally cars cost over 150k to build.. all the one off parts and machine work plus an engine with the balls to spin all 4.. I think the 1.4 can clear the 300 HP mark with e85 and head studs/ thick met head gasket and aftermarket turbo upgrade but that's not near the 500+ a rally car should be in my mind. But good luck to you sir, that will be a hell of a project!

Not to burst any bubbles, but although the Sonic and Encore or both Gamma2 platform cars, the rear floor pan of the Encore is totally diffferent on the AWD version. Definitely not a bolt in to the Sonic.
Even then, you still have to deal with the transaxle and getting a driveshaft hooked up to send power to the rear. The AWD Encore does not come with a manual transmission and the manual in the Sonic does not have provisions for a PTO or transfer case.

A little late to the AWD + SS discussion, the 03 through 05 or 06 Silverado SS's were all AWD. That truck certainly deserved the SS badge, yes, it should have had closer to 400 hp. But, it was easy to mod (intake, exhaust, billet servo on the 1-2, ect, ect) and quite quick with tuning and bolt ons running mid to low 14's, I ran a 15 flat bone stock with just true dual Flowmaster 50's dumped under the bed.

I may be in the minority, a place where I normally find myself, but I have not nor ever will accept the idea of a truck SS as anything other than a marketing ploy.
I follow a lot of televised racing but have never been able to watch truck races for more than 30 seconds.
Just another of my many prejudices.

Many indeed!lol How do you feel about the SVT Lightening and Raptor (other than they are Furds)?! They are all along the same lines, or even more taboo, the SS El Camino?! It wasn't a car because it had a bed and no back seat, but wore the SS badge.

Very cute, all. I consider any current generation Corvette to be SS worthy, but no Corvette available to be sold to the public has worn that emblem. Other than that my concept is murky but definitely does not include any truck or SUV.
Looking at the 2014 Corvette reveal, I am tempted to unretire, but I suspect I would need to work full time for two or three years to get the money together for the down payment. That or sell my Corvair, and I am not ready to do either at the moment.

The Encore will be for the U.S. and Canada only. In other markets, similar vehicles will be sold as the Opel Mokka and Chevy Traxx. As best as I can recall none of the AWD versions will be manual transmissions.

The closest transmission would be the F40 series 6-speed from the European market Opel Insignia OPC (think twin turbo AWD Regal GS). I don't know if it's a direct bolt up to the 1.4 though. That trans is designed for the family 1 and 2 engines. The 1.4 is a family 0 engine and comes paired with manual transmissions from the M32 series.
