Its the fluid, not the synchros. As far as I know the same transmissions in Europe do not have this issue. Also as far as I know, they use a thicker fluid. Seems to me that GM did a quick and easy way out to squeeze out a fraction of a MPG better by half assing something again and ultimately making it the owners problem down the road. My solution, when my 5 speed gets bad enough that I cant stand it, will be to swap in a 6 speed and use a fluid like Redline MT90 since that seems to have worked for most.
A small fraction of the cars produced will have a manual transmission. Most of those drivers will drive the car for what it is. The end result will be very few warranty repairs for the number of vehicles sold. GM does a lot of stupid things to save a fraction of a penny or to gain a fraction of a MPG. Does the same transmission in Europe have the same issue? I have heard that it has no issue with grinding.
I have very little grind with my car after adjusting my cables (the dealer was way off) and with a thicker oil It will probably be completely gone.

I don't know. Do those in Europe drive the same? Have the same temperatures as us? Were the transmissions made identical? Were there changes made in 2012? Are there differences in the firmware used in the car or the flywheel\clutch arrangement?
Before you can make an assumption you need a lot more facts.
Is your 5 speed even remotely the same as our 6 speed?
my car is brand new and its grinded twice going into 2nd. its like the input shaft has some rotational drag. the dealership just called asking how im enjoying my car, told him everythings great and mentioned the problem and he told me to take it to have it examined before it hits 1000 miles just in case. im going to call and schedule a time for them to look at it but I want to diagnose my findings (i work on every form of machine) Ive never had this type of grind happen unless experienced someone not fully disengaging a clutch causing input shaft to have rotational drag.
The only issue I have encountered with my 5 speed is a occasional grinding noise when shifting into reverse when fully stopped . I had the dealer look at it , but that did nothing . It occurs once or twice a week . I have not tried a different gear oil yet but and I doubt that it will solve my issue .
I have Redline MT-90 and mine still grinds when at operating temp. A fluid change really did nothing for mine, which is about what I was expecting it to do.
Have to say the MT-90 is better much better. 1-2 is better (not what a lil fwd should be IMO, think fwd ITR, GSR trans here), but 3-6 is butter compared to what it was yesterday.
We'll see what a couple thousand miles brings.opcorn:
