Second gear grinding & remedy

Guess I derp'd. Anyspray...... I'm heading over to the dealer now to get this straightened out. BRB.

Got my shift cables serviced. Now it's not grinding no matter how hard I bang it into 2nd.
The service tech also said: I noticed your T/C, and ABS light are always on and there's a bit of vibration at idle.
I said: Never you mind. And smashed off, banging it into 2nd at high RPMopcorn:.

Not only is the grinding gone, but shifting in general feels more correct. Basically there was too much slack in the cables going into 2nd and 4th, so it always felt like there was extra effort to pull them in.

After the adjustment, every gear shifts solid and feels, for lack of a better word, "correct."

Do you know how they adjusted it? My dealers down here are always busy and I just don't have the time to drop it off for a whole day. I got a positional promotion that requires me to miss very little work, and the courtesy shuttle just won't work for me.

The bulletin includes several diagrams of the shifter cables. So I think it would be extra helpful if I scan the entire bulletin and post it here for those that may consider the DIY approach.

As promised, here is a scan of the bulletin. The xerox from the dealer must have been low on toner so I penned in the parts that were hardly legible.

If you can't read my handwriting......... sorry about your luck.

This adjustment looks SUPER EASY. It's basically a cable reset in the 1st/2nd shift gate.

In a nutshell:
Open shifter console, pull up on cable lock tabs to unlock them.

Under the hood, position the shift lever as shown in diagram and lock it in place with a 5mm drill bit or allen key.

Unlock the reverse lockout on the shifter and rotate it 180 deg and set it in the two holes, this will align the shifter in the center of the 1st/2nd shift gate.

Now push down the tabs on the cable lock to secure the adjustment.

Spin the reverse lockout back to it's original position and lock it in.

DO NOT FORGET to remove the pin locking the shifter lever on the tranny.

My dealer provided me with a rental, I insisted I had things to do. They called me in an hour saying it was done.

Just use the two holes as a reference, and lock the cables while holding the shifter in that location. The reverse lockout isn't entirely integral to the cable adjustment.

Hmmm I might try to do this, great write up preloader!! I'm just alil confused on the part of "locking the cables" so I may just take it to the dealer

I wish the dealer would have done this when my shifter cables broke at 3k miles leaving me in 2nd gear!

They won't. I didn't see any tamper markings on the plugs.

It meets and exceeds the fluid recommendations. If you changed it yourself they'd know, keep the receipt and date you did it. Maybe take pictures. I've got over 10,000 on mine since i did the oil change without problems. Its still offering smooth shifts.

Is this a sarcastic comment? I didn't think they would know but I leave it to those with more experiences on these cars than myself. Granted I'm sure they could send a sample to a lab lol.

Me too. If the dealers around here won't do it I might just have a local shop do it for me (you don't want me working on cars, trust me). I'm wondering why some people's dealers see no problem with changing the fluid and even keeping the warranty, some others will do it but not guarantee the warranty, and some like mine that seem to think I'm retarded for even asking.

Not sarcastic at all. If they tested the oil they'd know it was different. But it won't void your warranty. Dealerships just say that cause they're too lazy to do it.
