It is tiring, because it's old, settled debate.
Whenever someone new comes in looking, and says they are going to get a 1.8, it's a good idea to have the conversation again, because to them, it's all new, and you can't really expect them to dig deep into the dead thread box to find out how it's been settled.
Should they get the 1.8? Maybe they should. But they should certainly think hard about that choice, because they don't really want to spend 18 thousand dollars, wake up a few days later and realize that they should have spent another 700 to get the 1.4.
Once they've already bought the 1.8, the argument is completely the other direction, do they really need to upgrade to the 1.4, since it would mean trading in their current Sonic and taking a beating, probably to the tune of several thousand dollars, just to upgrade the engine... probably not worth it.
It's the same thing raising kids, or getting new employees, or, well, lots of other cases present themselves out in the real world, turns out you have the same conversations again and again, they seem old and stale to the people who have already been through them a dozen times... but not so much for the person hearing it for the first time.
The simple way to avoid this is, when someone says "the 1.8 is good but the 1.4 is better" is just to not try to argue the contrary.
