Sonic or Spark?

If I were to have a Spark, I would be mad at the world. I haven't done anything bad enough for that kind of punishment.

Around my area I rarely see Spark's or Sonic's driving around. I take that back I see quite a bit of the Sonic sedans but maybe 1 or 2 hatchbacks and only seen one Spark driving around.

I like the idea of a small car but no customers yet that come into my store that I see drive a Spark to get a chance to ask if they like/dislike about the vehicle.

You prefer the looks of the Sonic better. Do you really want to drive a car you're not all that fond of looking at?

I'm thinking of taking a little ride to the dealership tomorrow to look at them since it's my day off. If any of the sellers come out I'll just say I'm not interested in buying just looking at what could be my options later on.

After watching videos over Youtube of the Spark it doesn't look all that bad. Of course, this could change when I'm actually up close to one. When I got my Focus the Spark's were coming out around the corner and I think I should have waited.

It also depends on if the price is right or not when I go in. Right now, I'm not looking to trade my car in until possibly next year and if they can't get meet where I need too at least I'll still have my Focus to turn too.

I'm thinking of next week to swing by the dealership to see if I can test drive both of them to see if any of the two interest me.

Anyone see the 2014 Spark EV or whatever its called? 100% electric and does 0-60 in under 8 seconds.

No price or mileage on a charge listed though.

I wanted to like the Spark but I couldn't. It weighs only a little less than the Sonic but has a much smaller motor: 87hp vs 138hp, and as a result it has no pickup for merging or even going up a steep hill. Gas mileage is also unimpressive, you might expect the tradeoff of a smaller car and smaller engine would be more mpg but this isn't the case with the Spark.

I don't normally argue with Swordsmith as he's usually right, however, this time I have to disagree. I owned a Sonic LTZ up until this weekend and my mom currently owns a Spark.

I don't know what was going on with Swordsmith but my mom's Spark gets excellent mpg. Most of her driving is in town with about 5-10% of it at highway speeds and she averages 40 mpg on her last 3 tanks. Also I recently drove her Spark for a day while my Cruze was in the tint shop and it has excellent acceleration at town speeds (I didn't have the opportunity to drive the highway).

Obviously everyone's experience will be different but her Spark is an excellent car for in town.

Also, Money will be a major factor so just buy the one you like better and can afford.

P.S. While my Sonic had a bit more room in the driver's seat than the Spark I was still fairly comfortable in the Spark. I am 6'4" 300lbs. btw.

All you need to do is look up the published horsepower, curb weight and EPA estimated gas mileage to see Swordsmith is correct.

The Spark, at least according to published specifications is substantially slower than a Sonic and gets worse gas mileage. That doesn't mean its not fast enough, but the fact its slower and has a lower advertised MPG kills it in my opinion.

Sorry, to add new life into this thread but curious on something. With someone who does barely any highway driving my local dealership has a used Sonic hatch for about 14k. While I can get a Spark LT for about the same price that is brand new.

I'm thinking (and all of this can change or the vehicle could sell before it all happens) would I get a better deal on trading my Focus in for a used car or should I bargain for a new Sonic/Spark?

Just another option I just thought of. I was told to wait til around November-December would be the best time to shop with all the sales/rebates going around. Not sure how true this is..

I also think the Sonic they might budge more on since it is used over the Spark. But just curious..

I can guarantee they have more wiggle room on the used Sonic, if they're asking 14k they probably paid 9k, someone will offer them 12k and think they got a good deal.

Thank you I will try to remember that. Well.. I think they sold that used Sonic. Oh well.. I really would love to get a Sonic hatchback LT model but some of them can be out of my price range. So my other option is to see if Chevrolet will have some sort of wiggle room on the new Sonic's or look at it's younger brother the Spark.

Generally, for a new car, the end of a quarter is a good time and the next is the end of June. Maybe that would be extended through July 4th.
I suspect, generally, the "wiggle room" on a new Sonic or Spark is minimal though.
