Steering Noise

I have an update about the loose steering. Last night I decided to adjust the telescoping steering wheel just for the heck of it and my adjustment actually made an enormous difference in my steering problem.

I previously had it as high as it would go, but as far from me as it would go. I adjusted it to come out to me all the way and my steering actually feels pretty good. It feels smooth but not loose and I can take turns without feeling like I'll fly across the intersection.

Glad I found this thread. I am having the same issue. Still need to take my car in for the fuel line recall so probably mention the noise and E9500 bulletin when I take it in.

Weird Groaning Noise When Steering

For about a month now my Sonic has been making a groaning noise when I turn, almost like two parts are rubbing together. I can only hear it at low speeds, and it happens while moving forwards and backwards.
Lately it has gotten worse so I am taking it in to be looked at Friday morning.

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue.

Are you turning at full lock? If so, those may be the steering stops that rub as the suspension moves.

UPDATE:
Had it fixed today.
BOTH of my front sway bar bushings were seized, so the power steering had to work harder to steer the car. The noise was a combination of the seized bushings and overworked pump. The dealer replaced them and the problem is gone.
If your car is making the noise take it in and tell them to check your sway bar bushings. If enough people have the same problem I wouldn't be surprised if there is a recall.

My car had less than 4,000 miles when the problem developed, I'm at 3,765.

Mine did this for a few weeks then stopped. I have not heard the noise for the last 3 months now.

My car is making a clunk or pop when you turn tight like pulling out of my driveway or pulling in or out of a parking spot. I took it to my dealer and all they said is that it's normal. The rack is hitting its internal bumpers. I find it highly unlikely that gm sends cars out that make noise, mind you it's done this since the second day I had it and as of today it has under 900mi. Unfortunately I have no faith in any of the service writers/technicians at my local dealer, the last time I was there I had to physically hold the guys hand and tell them the fuel was mixing with oil at the injectors in our 03 duramax which they over filled with oil too

Old post but at least I didnt start a new one. I kept ignoring my steering sound until I found this thread.
Anyway...Ughhhhhhhh I feared that this was an issue..I'm at 6,368 miles. I have no idea when my sonic started to make this clicking sound when steering at stop and sometimes when reversing. Its been going on for a good while... So I have to take it to the dealer? ...what a drag. Maybe I should wait and mention this when its time for a tire rotation since I'll probably be taking it to the dealer for that.

Yeah thats what I will do. I'll probably take it for a rotation at 8,000something miles, not too much left to go. Hopefully it doesnt get worse. I wasn't sure if it was a problem. I park hundreds of cars a day and I'm always moving around steering wheels when I park to see if I hear that sound but nope, nothing. I'm like ahhhh their has to be something going on with my "new" sonic.
