Stereo cutting out (traction control/abs related?)

Hello everyone,

Lately it's been quite snowy around my area and occasionally when traction control or ABS go off my stereo will cut out entirely. I do not have Mylink touch screen, just the regular stereo -all stock stereo 2013 LT hatch. When it cuts the screen goes blank and all sound (including turn signals) goes out. Sometimes it will flicker on and off before cutting out. After cutting out it may be dead anywhere from a few moments to 5-15 minutes depending.

Anyone else have this issue? Is there a known problem out there? Haven't taken it to Chevy yet, have been disappointed with Chevy service in the past and am not excited about the prospect of having to take my car in.

Sound like a good reason to take it in. Maybe take a video if u can cuz they will try to make you recreate it.

Mine did this the other day as I was sliding around in the snow. I could be wrong, but I think that the radio shutting off is actually functioning as intended. A radio can be distracting, and shutting it off while the vehicle is sliding or skidding might be an additional safety "feature" to alert an otherwise oblivious driver that they have lost control of the vehicle.

That said, when my radio shut off, it was only for about 2 seconds and then it came right back on. Staying off for 5-15 minutes does not seem normal, and it may be worth getting it checked out (although I'm not sure if the dealer is going to want to recreate the problem by intentionally losing control of the vehicle).

Hmm. I wonder how long the stability light has to be on. Mine comes on all the time and never have the radio cut.

I've played with my car in empty parking lots with and without the tc/sc to see how the car would recover from skids. The radio never cut out. I have the mylink stereo but doubt if this was a safety feature they would eliminate it from the upgraded stereo. Besides can anyone recall any time they had a close call while driving that they can remember if the radio was on? Or if the radio off may have helped you avoid a accident? Assuming the stereo blasting caused you to not hear an impending accident.
Maybe I'm a freak of nature but whenever I need to take immediate action to avoid a crash or injury, I immediately focus on the task at hand and zone out anything else.

I have pulled the e-break in snow and had the traction light come on. No issues with the radio, it is a Mylink and not the normal radio though.

I'll test mine out within a few hours and see if the radio temporarily cuts out when the ABS or TC activates. I've never noticed but I'm usually only half way listening to the radio on a normal drive, cursing TC, STM when it kicks on, or thinking about how I need new tires when ABS comes on; so I could have overlooked it before lol.

Good stuff. all of my snow and ice has melted, but I will say that when my radio cut out, I was doing an extended e-brake "powerslide" and I think that it was caused by stabilitrak moreso than TCS or ABS.

I have also been having this issue on my 2013 LS sedan. It has the lowest level radio package ( 4 speaker AM/FM radio). For me it seems to happen sporadically when the TC engages. Usually it only cuts off for a few seconds, but once or twice it lasted 5-8 minutes. I'll be taking mine in soon to see what the dealership has to say.

I remember others having this issue, though they also had other electric issues happening also. It may be worth checking into.

I started a thread about this issue yesterday and was pointed to this thread.
2013 LT hatchback, standard stereo. The car has been to a dealer - the only thing they could come up with was to replace the battery cables. Started happening again right after with the first snow. It's going back next Friday - if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated.

My thinking is that the radio turning off is just going to make me focus on the radio wondering why it turned off. This WILL distract me more from whatever else was going on.

I tested out activating TC and/or ABS and the radio kept playing as normal.

I had this happen to me a few times, but my radio cut out when the TCS light came on and turned on immediately afterwards, both times it happened were directly after I had to have my car jump started so I assumed there wasn't enough spare power to power both the radio and the TCS system, I guess it is something to maybe look into

Haven't taken it to a dealer yet as I'm afraid they'll have trouble diagnosing and resolving it just as your dealer apparently did... Furthermore the snow is off the roads at this point and I don't know how they'd replicate the issue without abusing the car.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one however, perhaps Chevy will release a service bulletin or something when they figure it out. Anyone have a dealership resolve this issue for them? If so, what'd they do?
