2013 Sonic RS - No Playlists and more(less).
Just got off the phone with the Infotainment Specialists, 30 minutes and no solution to my problem. I've poured over all 80+ pages of threads. I found a few that touch on my problem although not specifically. I searched google high and low and read all relevant information here on the forum(that I am aware of, though oversights can happen to anybody). I also read the entire manual word-for-word, something my coworkers laughed at me for
Background info: I'm using a 32GB Corsair Voyager thumb drive with exFAT. I have my music formatted as mp3 with ID3v1 and 2(It could be 2.3 or 2.4, not sure how to tell). My workaround for playlists is to have my music separated in folders. Although with shuffle on it seems to jump around folders, hence my desire for playlists. Filenames are XX(tracknumber) - XXXXX(tracktitle).mp3. Everything is displayed correctly on the touchscreen. It detects all songs, folders, artists, albums and genres.
My problem is this: Playlist does not show up as an option on the MyLink audio menu interface.
As I understand it, it will only appear as an option if and only if the system recognizes a compatible playlist file that points to compatible music files on the device being accessed, and only if the playlist exists in the same directory as the music files.
There is a distinct lack of information on the specifics considering the number of conditions that need to be met. Which ID3 version needs to be used? What format does the playlist need to be in? There's simple and extended, relative and absolute, forward slash or back slash, or no directory formatting(just filename). Does everything need to exist in root or can I get the functionality in folders and sub-folders? M3U or PLS?
I've tried all possible combinations I can think of. Support thinks it's a malfunction, but she didn't seem very savvy so I wanted to ask you folks before I brought it in for service. I think most of what I said went over her head.
One other minor problem: When I select an album, the unit arbitrarily orders the tracklist alphabetically by track title from the ID3 tag instead of filename or by track number from the ID3. Lame! I could get by without playlists if this function worked logically. Clearly not made in the USA. I have the ability to add track numbers to the titles but what a pita.
