For video in motion bypass: I wouldn't expect to have to modify the software. Typically it would be interrupting the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) or similiar input in the harness that the head unit uses to know the vehicle is in motion. Of course, this makes some assumptions.
Also maybe there are "test modes" like in other head units in other vehicles.
If the signal is from a CAN bus then its a lot harder.
Basically that means:
1) Either figuring out the harness pinout(s) or having vehicle schematics
2) Going from there based on what's required (interrupt, or having to fake a CAN signal.
But of course I don't have one here (the car), but I do have the test equipment needed except for CAN. For that a CAN interface card or adapter & logging software is needed.

Is MYlink able to be detached from the car? I see pictures and a video of some guy using it and its detached from the car.

I have not seen anything like that. Maybe post a link. Some have already noticed I am an inveterate google searcher.
I do not see how Cue or Intellilink would be any different as regards detaching and using and I do not see how any of the three would.
And finally why? That would be a lot of bulk and mass to carry in your back pack as you walk through the parking lot.

Well CUE, IntelliLink and MyLink have been stated as having different features.
I figure that if the extra expense of detachability were featured it would be on a higher end unit.
(Like MyLink doesn't have HD or CD)
A detachable face is actually a good feature as a theft deterrent.

I'd like an app to essentially make MyLink into a configurable gauge cluster with logging. (ala UltraGauge)
Reading/clearing codes, etc.
With such a robust unit in the dash why should I have to plug some device in?
The ability to choose tunes would be a mega bonus.
Can you imagine not using the cruise control switched tune method? You could have one for several fuel types!

Well Torque for android does some of this, if we hack it to work with whatever apps we want this is at the top of my list.

I was looking around today and some units require the parking break to be on to watch video. idk if this is the case with mylink, but that should be easy enough to fake.

Yes, you're referring to aftermarket units, right?
Unfortunately this often does not work for OEM head units. But I guess we'll find out soon hopefully when someone reports playing video files when stopped and then moving with/without the brake on.

I know the higher end MYlinks have a different layout than the one in Sonic's. In theory couldn't someone hack it and mod it to make it look like the higher end MYlinks. I'm assuming the only difference between the two is software.

The hardware is probably diffrent. Reading some white papers it probably runs on windows ce 7. We could deff see a more customized GUI the emulates the higher end hardwares look.
I found an artical stating that Livio Connect : More Music Less Work has been working with gm. So basicly we need to push livio to the apps we love to use, if we want to keep it stock. (I'm looking at you netflix)

Actually, from Livio's website, we'd have to get GM to approve apps we make/have made.
Either that, or we find a way around it.
Interestingly, they use an authentication server but I think that in-car stereos get to circumvent that since it's flashed at the dealer.
It looks like Tune In is one of their partners.
ps, wonder how much it costed them to be able to name their authentication server "WOPR"?

It's confirmed, they do verification through remote servers for apps allowed on MyLink:

Surely there's some way it could be worked around, some how get it offline then add the apps yourself. I'm not a computer nerd but with how people crack windows operating systems so they can install illegal copies, i'm sure this would an easy work around for someone that had the time.
