mylink power

Hi this weekend my friend was in my 2013 Sonic LTZ with no key in. He pushed the power button on the radio (mylink) to my surprise it turned on! However it didn't turn off automatically with me locking the door. I had to manually turn it off. I am sure most of you tried this but is this supposed to happen? or is this another power problem with the mylink radio?

the stock radio does the exact same thing. If you turn it on without the key you need to either cycle they key or turn it off manually.

Refer to the Plastic covered manual in the Glove box.

It reads on pg 9-18 the radio can be turned on at anytime by pressing the On button and it will automatically shut off after 10 min.

Its a nice feature if your working on the car and don't want other accesories on draining the battery, or listening to the dorr ajar ding.

And if you forget about it for too long it will shut off (tsame as interior lights). If you change stations or volume it will extend the auto shutoff another 10mins

Mylink powers on by itself

Hey everyone.. So today for no apparent reason my radio (mylink) decided that it would power up on its own after I turned off the car and locked the doors. So I unlocked the car and turned it back on than off again..got out, locked door..waited and about 2 minutes later the radio turned on again. So the third time I sat inside the car and locked the door, again the radio turned on, but when I hit a button on the radio, it turned off, no matter which button I hit, but again would turn on again about a minute later.

My question is. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, what did you do about it?

I have tried resetting the radio back to factory settings, but that did not work, I have not tried disconnecting the battery cable yet. I was tired of messing with it, so I just pulled the radio fuse from under the dash.

I think I will take it to the dealer tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had already experienced this problem before I resulted to that.

Sorry for the long post but I do appreciate everyones knowledge and opinions

Not many of us here have Mylink but I can say that mine has not spun its head around and spewed pea soup on me.

Well, I dropped it off this morning to have the demons removed from it...but of course, like every trip to the dealer "they couldn't duplicate the problem"

So I'm going to pick it up tonight...hopefully it was just a wierd hickup and won't happen again.

Oh, but other news, their is a TSB out for 2013 1.4T 6sp manual sonics...apparently their is a flaw in the computer and sometimes when you stall it, on restart the car will not go more than 5MPH...I left all the paperwork in my car at the dealer, but i'll get more info on it when I pick my car up

MyLink "features"

I figured I should write up a list of buggy behavior that I've noticed over the past few weeks with my 2013 Sonic's MyLink stereo. I have an appointment to get it re-flashed, we'll see what gets better and what gets worse.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the MyLink HU and am not planning on swapping it out any time soon. There are a lot of good things going on with MyLink too. This is just a lit of problems, annoyances, and usability issues.

  • I have a USB stick with a dozen or so mp3 albums on it. I have found that I can get the screen to crash around 50% of the time changing between two of the songs. It's not 100% consistent but happens often enough that I'm guessing one of the mp3s has some corrupted info in it. Whatever the case, I shouldn't get something that looks like Windows Notepad to pop up.
  • MyLink has SEVEN PAGES of favorites. I'd be happy with two. The manual mentions something about how to delete unwanted pages of favorites but I've never been able to get it to work.
  • Of these seven pages of favorites, every one is populated with something. I'm assuming by salespeople, mechanics, test drivers, etc. There isn't any way to clear the favorites. If it was a standard AM/FM radio there would be a scanner tool or some way to pre-program favorites but with AM, FM, and XM all co-mingled there isn't any way that I've found to clear out the favorites short of going through and setting all 42 favorites to the same station.
  • If SiriusXM radio is playing when I turn off the car, a different station will be playing when I turn the car back on. For a while it was some religious station, now it defaults to channel 1. I have the main SiriusXM channel I listen to set as favorite #1 on page #1, you'd think if the radio was going to default to something different than the last state it was in that it would pick the first favorite.
  • There doesn't appear to be a way to disable an audio source. If I never use the AM tuner, why do I need to scroll through it to get to the USB source?
  • You can't stream audio from a separate bluetooth device and have a phone paired. I had my iPhone paired, wanted to try playing some lossless audio off of my Nexus 7 tablet and tried pairing the tablet to MyLink. Pairing worked but it disconnected my iPhone 4s in the process. As an added bonus, after that my iPhone wouldn't auto-pair to MyLink. Even deleting the pairing info for the Nexus 7 didn't help. I ended up deleting/re-pairing the iPhone to get things working again. There needs to be some more controllable prioritization around bluetooth devices. As the primary driver I don't want to have to delete and re-add my phone every time someone pairs their phone.
  • bluetooth passthru works and I can interact with Siri but there's a horrible lag before Siri beeps (2-3 seconds at least). I have to hold down the phone button on the steering wheel and wait...and wait...before I can speak a command.
  • Pushing the phone button on the steering wheel does nothing if MyLink is not turned on. I'm pretty sure hands-free works and incoming calls are answered through MyLink so I'm not sure what's up with the phone button.
  • If MyLink is turned on and playing music pressing the phone button on the steering wheel just changes to the phone dialing page (yeah, cause I should be manually typing in phone numbers on the screen while driving). Hitting the phone button a second time calls the lucky person that I talked to last. No voice prompts, no beeps, etc.
  • The manual states that MyLink can recognize two USB devices. Oddly there is only a single USB port. The manual goes on to say that you can use a USB hub to connect multiple USB devices... Anyone ever seen a 2-port USB hub? I don't think I have. And, if I plug my iPhone in to the USB hub, MyLink ignores whatever music source is already playing and starts playing whatever music happens to be on my iPhone (the 3rd USB device). Still haven't figured out if one of the existing USB devices gets bumped when I plug the phone in.
  • The manual specifically states that I can plug the iPhone in to the USB hub but cautions not to charge your phone through the USB hub. Um, okay, I'll just go in and change the nonexistant option to "not charge" when plugged in... Where was that option again?
  • Bluetooth audio streaming does not appear to contain any metadata - nothing on the screen to say what audio program is playing (just says bluetooth).
  • There 's no way to skip to the next logical grouping (album, folder, playlist). This one just seems like an oversight since our 2006 Terraza has dedicated buttons up above the CD player for next and previous folders.
  • FF/REW speed is constant. As far as I can tell holding down the fast forward / rewind buttons doesn't skip through the music track any faster even if you've been holding it down for a minute (trying to get to a specific part of a DJ mix). Yeah, I could reach over and use the scrub bar and drag the position to where I want it but I'd probably end up wrapped around a tree or up somebody's tail pipe. The steering wheel controls are there to make things safer (did someone say "eyes free"?), make them work as expected.
  • Stitcher app doesn't have a setting for audio playback speed. I generally listen to podcasts at 1.5x, that's how Stitcher is set on my iPhone. But through some magic, every time I hook my iPhone up to MyLink and use the MyLink Stitcher app it sounds like a 45 being played at 33 1/3.
  • Turn by turn navigation using the iPhone's built in mapping program will not play over the MyLink audio. If I bring up Siri and ask for directions the turn by turn navigation directions are spoken through the iPhone speaker (even though it is paired with the car and Siri was just playing over the speakers).
  • MyLink screen brightness is not independantly adjustable. The screen on my MyLink is overly bright so after dark I have to darken the instrument cluster more than I would prefer in order to avoid being blinded in my right eye by the MyLink screen. Conversely, when the light sensor on the dash detects that I've entered a particualarly shadowy or foggy area and the headlights kick on, I suddenly won't be able to see the MyLink display and I will need to jack up the brightness, knowing that I'll regret it on the drive home.
