Thinking of Getting a Sonic

First post here so hello!

I am now looking for a new car and want a Sonic.

I am looking for a black exterior, and thinking the 2013 LTZ package with the 1.4 manual and moonroof would be a great car for me. My spending limit is about 20K.

Any thoughts on this? I cannot find one in my area that matches what I want. I went to the GM site and did the "build your own" and I was wondering what the "painted rims" are for like $1100?

Also, what about the 2012 LT with the 1.4 manual? Is that a comparable model to the one I listed above?

Any info on this or opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

First off Welcome! Ill start by saying I have had my LTZ 1.4T 6m for exactly 1 year and 2 days and love it! You definitely should get the 1.4T 6spd, and everything else is personal choice. If you would rather keep cost down get the LT with the fog light package and moonroof. I personal think the rims look better on that car. Have you driven both cars or sat in both? The things that swayed my decision were that I had to have the leather wrapped wheel, because it just feels so much better and makes the car feel less cheap. I know its standard on the LTZ and the base LT doesn't have it, however the fog light package changes a few things not sure if that's one of them. The leatherette interior is nice and has proven comfortable, but the cloth seats are very soft as well. If you don't want lots of chrome don't get and LTZ. All things that i have stated can be changed with money, time, and skill level available so keep that in mind as well. You will be happy with whatever you choose.

The painted rims are just painted black or white. Its been a while since I have checked option out so time to look things up.

The LT is the same car minus a few things, Leather, Lots of chrome, rims LTZ 17in. and LT 15in., steering wheel, and heated seats. To get 16in. rims you have to get the fog light package. Heated seats you can get installed if you want them.

What are you thinking as far as hatch vs. sedan?

you can get them painted white too. they're just stock wheels painted. waste of money if you ask me.

if you get the 1.4 in an LT with the wheels and foglight package, you get the same 17s as the LTZ. the sunroof isn't available on the LT. leatherette isn't available on the LT.

Just built a few and you cannot add the fog light package to a LT and keep the 1.4T. It makes you switch to the 1.8 for some strange reason. As Eric stated you can't get the sunroof unless its and LTZ.

yes you can, that's just a glitch on GM's website. if you get the 1.4 you get fogs and the LTZ 17s, and the 1.8 gets fogs and 16s.

A glitch makes sense because I was like What!? thats BS. That's new that the fog light package adds LTZ wheels not the 16in.? Unless the 16in. are for the 1.8L only and maybe I haven't seen or noticed a 1.4T Fog pack LTZ wheeled LT yet.

I bought the LTZ for one main reason. Price, I bought it in September and the dealer was waiting on 2013s. I bought it at an LT2 price. Only drawback was the auto trans.

Hard to say no... If that option wasn't there it would have been LTville for me. As I wanted a Sonic with max mpg potential.

In searching it seems like the 1.4 turbo is a lot harder to find than the 1.8. That is something I am pretty concrete in though is the 1.4T.

I would also like the foglight and 17 inch wheels as well.

I have been searching my area in Wisconsin and it seems it is hard to come by.

Sedans FTW! If you have time to wait order one the way you want and be happy from day one. That's what I did, but Cyber Grey was new then and I had the first one at the dealer and in my area. Still have only seen one or two tops.

The 1.4 is at times hard to find. The 17s are overrated. I wish they just used the Eco rims.

The Eco rims? No, and you will pay dearly for them unless you have a solid connection, and an assclown willing to buy a Cruze Eco with your old 17s.

Yes very true, but if your keeping the car long term it was worth it for me to order what i want. Or you can shop and hope you can settle on something you can live with. Saving money is always a good thing.

Is the 1.8L 5 speed manual pretty decent?

There are many people on here with the 1.8 and like it a lot. There are also people who wish they ponied up the extra 700 bones for the turbo. For me the 1.8 wasn't even an option. I figured why buy a new car with old tech inside. I wouldn't consider any car with less than a 6spd and had to have a turbo. That's where all cars are going and that's where the power and economy is at. There is no replacement for displacement, but a turbo goes a long way to make me feel better about my tiny Eco car. Have you driven both 1.4t and 1.8 models? I recommend it if you have not yet. I never drove the 1.8, but as I said above it was never an option.
