I use Uber for riding, but I don't drive for them. All drivers that I've ridden with complain that the pay to them is super low. Uber over-glorifies how much drivers can make, at least in the DFW area. There have been two 20% rate cuts here in the last few months. Good for riding, bad for driving.

I've driven for them for the past year. The Sonic works great for it. Great gas mileage, get to have fun with the car all the time, and plenty of room for 4 passengers. Current rates really make it hurt to keep driving, but at least it does help with car payments, insurance, etc.

The "legality" of uber is yet to be officially deterimined. It can be construed as an unlicensed cab service - and as such has been banned in many areas.

As a former insurance agent, I wonder about the insurance coverage of the drivers. This is a question for those of you that drive for uber - Have you informed your insurance company that you are transporting customers for hire? Are you providing uber with a certificate of insurance - naming them as an additional insured?

If not, there could be serious ramifications to you. Business use of a vehicle will dramatically increase the cost of your insurance. I'm not saying that they wouldn't pay a claim, but they most likely would cancel your policy. If that happens, you will most likely pay dearly to the next insurance company - as most companies ask the question on the application if you've ever had a policy canceled. If you have, you most likely will be classified as a high risk customer.

The gray area with insurance is why I decided not to drive for Uber. I believe I had a thread here about that sometime around a year ago or so.

The unclear legality of insurance coverage turned me off.

Well uber has its own which backs yours up if you got hit you would just go thru them for any repairs Ive been told that by other drivers, but Since I started driving for them I've never had to use it... I also have my TCP so I'm different then most others.

just stay away from the airport you'll be good it's the same way here in Cali we get those same fines for picking up at the airport.. I was busted once before I had my TCP send uber an email or go to one of the driver meetings they will help you with any questions related to your area.. Check the Facebook groups

Yeah, it's not just air ports here they have been doing stings where the officers will sign on the app and wait for you. They have even larger fines at the airport and the port of Miami.

I have heard they pay the fines in other areas haven't heard it yet here. I was gonna just get the taxi permit so is be legal, it's only $124 but you have to have a taxi company endorse it before you can apply for it... Uber isn't a taxi company here, that's their whole position on the fight. You can't regulate us like a taxi were just an app.

Also I've heard the pay cuts are bad but my sonics gas mileage is amazing and this would just be nights and weekends for extra cash.

My sister driving for Uber in Lansing uses a manual. Alas she's driving a Ford, even though I tried to get her into a Sonic, too.

Just finished my third trip today. Going great. I do have a question does anyone know how to turn on turn by turn while riders are in the car? It reads it to me while no one is in the car, but it just shows the directions after I pick up. Also the directions don't work with our blue tooth it seems.

I didn't work the whole day only about 2 hours total time, very relaxed. I made $56.54. Not a ton of money but it was a Sunday. I'm hoping Friday/Saturday nights I'll be making more than that.
