I'm about to drive my Sonic to San Francisco in two weeks for a conference/some work. I figured I better get some wax on it before it sees nasty winter roads.
I then figured I'd finish my debadging. So I get the Sonic LT, Turbo and dealer stuff off no issue. I heat up the bowtie, pop it off.. and to my dismay Chevrolet (unlike on my Cobalts) used locating pins
So as you can see below I now have two nice 3-4mm wide holes.
I'm trying to decide my long-term plan of action, but at the moment I'm going to just cover them with two small circles of red monokote tape for model airplanes. I looked through my stash of RC plane stuff and the red tape I have is pretty much a match to Victory Red. I might look around on ebay or through the GM catalogs for a black bowtie that isnt so large... not sure. Maybe a Holden or Opel badge??? I always liked that Opel lightning bolt thing. To make matters worse, when the bowtie was put on the car at the factory they SLAMMED it on and dug into the paint on one corner. I should be able to polish that all out and fill in the gouge with my color chip kit.
BUT ANYWAY.... just a beware to anyone else who's thinking of debadging. My next project will be the black out the front bowtie. Going to try my hand again at vinyl on that.
Oooooh shiny red Sonic
Rear without badges
HOLES!!
