Who's gonna keep OnStar and Sirius/XM?

I'll be letting XM/Sirius drop after the 3 month trial is over. I do like the iPhone app for Onstar that lets me check fuel level and tire pressure, but it's definitely not worth $200/year for that luxury.

Can't get past the poor sound quality of XM/Sirius. AM radio sounds almost as good.

Both will be gone for me after the trial period ends.

I Dont understand why so many people have poor sound quality. In my area is sooooo much better then FM and you Dont have 15 mins of commercial

I have kept the XM radio but dropped the On star. I have had several issues with ON Star. A lot depends on where you are and who you get when you call in for directions. On two different occasions the people at ON star have given me the wrong directions while there also were two times when the directions were good hitting 50% is not worth the money that they charge for it. Also I think you should get 3 years of On star LOL The big issue I have with XM radio is that it cuts out in town and underpasses

Can you "wheeler dealer" them? I LOVE THAT SHOW!!!!

Seems that or something similar is available if you ask for it. You may have to call back one or two times to get a rep that will agree.

Well my sound quality on XM is either as good as FM or better than FM, depending on whether I'm in a good reception area for FM. Onstar never gives me bad reception, except for the rare instances where it cuts out entirely, I think places where I have stuff in between me and the satellite itself; trees, overpasses, tall buildings, steep mountain grades. There's also, I think, a small buffer, so if I run under something and back out quickly I never notice a blip, but if I'm moving slow or passing a long obstruction, then it's gone.

Maybe if I travelled mostly in concrete jungle or on the north side of steep mountains I wouldn't like it so much.

I've also blown out some of my hearing registers by pounding swords for 20 years so it's possible XM sucks and I just can't hear the difference. Good enough for me though!

Just renewed XM for $50/6mo (1/2 off). Told them I wouldn't renew at full price and they instantly droped the price, no haggling. I use it all the time .

OnStar can go fly a kite, I don't want it if its free and wish the dealer never started my free trial

I dropped both. I just don't need either (nor the added bills). I'd be more agreeable to onstar if it charged on a per-use basis and that it wouldn't interrupt my music to advertise itself.

Haggle a little and they will give you 6 months for $25.

I just got 6 months of XM for $20 and $140 for the safe and sound and directions and connections package with onstar.

When I was signing the paperwork for my car the finance manager put the OnStar agreement in front of me and I told him I don't want OnStar and would not be signing it. By the look on his face you would've thought I had killed a kitten.

At first the OnStar logo on my MyLink radio was greyed out but in the last day or two it is illuminated, making me wonder if it is working now. It better not be.

Onstar is about to expire and I won't renew for the same reasons as Swordsmith mentioned. They need different options then they currently offer. They lose many customers due to their lack of creative plans!

Update: Just got this today. I believe they can still help but chose not to. Another lost customer due to lack of creative plans or options. This type of scare tactic marketing just seems wrong!

Stew, I believe the OnStar leaves the factory "working" meaning if you press the button you WILL be connected to an OnStar advisor whether or not you signed the OnStar activation document when you purchased or leased your car. (I'm assuming you didn't pull the fuse, cut the wire, or otherwise disable the OnStar connectivity.) The only difference is that once connected to an advisor, OnStar will not know your name, make or model of your car, and they won't offer you an service plan, let along any OnStar services (directions, emergency services, etc).

If you find that the dealer did in fact activate your OnStar, and you plan on having an "I SAID NO ONSTAR!!" meltdown in the dealership, please record and post your encounter on the forum. I for one take great joy in the expression on a someone's face when they are confronted with their deceitful/dishonest actions exposed and/or they've just soiled their undergarments. opcorn:

Lol, that would be kind of fun... I just need the weather to get a little better so I can finish crippling OnStar, then it will be moot. I do like the bluetooth connectivity though so I can't completely disable it from what I understand.

I'm glad I followed this thread... I checked my Onstar account online and noticed they had my credit card number on file... I immediately called them (since they don't have an option on the website to remove a CC on file)... and they removed that from my account. Onstar's 'auto renewal' policy is pretty shady... you have to 'opt-out'.

Another annoying fault with OnStar is it cannot handle having any device plugged into the ODB port. The monthly email (although pretty worthless) is even more so when all you get is 'a unknown device is connected to the data port'. Jeez.

I'll just go back to checking my tires with a pressure gauge.
