1.8L Intake manifold recall

So i went in for the first oil change on the car on Sunday, and when i left my CEL was on. So i went back to the dealership and had them run the light and they said it was a recall for something to do with the Intake Manifold. So i take in today to get done and instead of being a simple part on the manifold they have to replace the entire manifold. So im just wondering if anyone else has heard of this recall situation.

no, they didnt say why, just said something about a part on the manifold was in recall, and when i take it to get done the said they have to replace the whole manifold. On the good side, they gave a brand new Malibu for a loaner car.

So i just got home from picking her up, and the verdict is... The tuning valve on the manifold was stuck so they had to change the manifold. And ill tell ya what on the drive home i noticed it was running way better then before i took it in.

when you say running way better than before. what was it doing before?

well when i have the AC on the car was really sluggish, and just didnt want to get out its own way, now its running like it was when i drove away from the stealership.

Hm, my car is horrid while running the AC. If I let off the gas in top gear it feels like I downshifted with all the engine braking I get. It's not easy to shift with the AC on since the RPM drops to nothing almost instantly. I was thinking the 1.8 was just really puny. I guess I better have that looked at sooner rather than later.

No, my car was doing the same thing you had described, and now its running better and smoother with the AC on. So im not sure if it is a true recall, but they fixed if under the warranty, and im glad they did cause it wouldve cost me almost 800 bux to get it fixed.

My guess is that there was a TSB about an issue. I don't see this being a recall issue.

My car does the same thing. I was going to have them look at it when I take it for the oil change as well. The car runs really, terrible with the AC on. Good thing to know it's not just me.

I ran the AC on the drive home today and got the same problem again. I can count on one hand how many times I've used it since I bought the car but I'm almost certain it wasn't like this before. Just curious, how many miles do you guys have? I'm at 975 right now.

My sonic is doing the same as everyone elses when the A/c is on. Its sluggish, Boggs like crazy and just does not want to move for nothing. Just dont get how an engine can run like a jackrabbit with the A/c off and then Drive like a snail with it on. Ive almost gotten hit countless times because of this problem. I contacted my dealership i bought it from to see what they can do for me. i supplied them with the information i found here in this thread in hopes they can set me up to get it fixed and be covered under warrenty. Im tired of using my A/c and the car driving so terribly. Ive never owned a car with an engine that boggs like this with just the A/c on. Thanks for the information! will keep you all posted on how i make out. I have a LT2 Sedan with the 1.8L... Love my sonic otherwise.

Sorry that you experienced this issue but also happy that your Sonic is running more smooth and the dealer took care of it. I checked and this is not an official recall.

Since this is not a "GM Recall" would my stealership actually fix it or even know there was a problem? My car is driving like how it was stated, and it seems like my dealership doesn't like to fix things and kinda of treats me like crap and put me on the back burner
