I'd like to know that as well. They love to throw that magic "it's normal" line around and refuse to even look at things.

Any Chevrolet dealer can do warranty work. You are not required by law or rule to go to the dealer who delivered the car to you, to the dealer closest to you or to a dealer who has failed to meet your service expectations. If you are using the towing service your warranty provides, they will tow to the dealer of your choice within ten miles, even if there is a dealer closer to where the car needing towing is located.

What I mean is, if the Chevy dealers are anything like the other dealers I've dealt with in the past, and the one I've been to so far is, everything is normal and they won't fix it until the warranty is gone. Then out of nowhere the car has every expensive problem in the book.

Its a small engine with a large load placed on it. The AC is going to make it very sluggish. Unless you can get a flash for the car that will disable AC as soon as you hit WOT (I have not come across a car that does this in a while) it is going to be a turd when the AC is on. Anytime I may need to jump out real quick and the air is on, I turn it off. Even in my 98 Z24 I always did that because of the same issue.

I realize that, but it seems to bog down way too much for my liking. It didn't feel like this when I first got it either.

I have come across dealers whose service departments have not lived up to my expectations, else how would I be able to state with such certainty that you can use he Chevy Customer Assistance towing service and bypass a dealer as long as the tow is within ten miles! But my experience getting warranty or other service work done tells me most are pretty good.

I first went to Buff Whelen to price out a car. They informed me that the closest Sonic Hatch with a manual was on the west side of the state. STopped at Hamilton on my way home and test drove, went home and looked over finances, and purchased my car that evening. Needless to say I will not be going back to Buff again. Shame since my family has used them for over 20 years.

There are good dealers and bad dealers out there. I have worked in both.

I dealt with Rodger's in Woodhaven last and they made it clear that they couldn't care about my issues. The entire time I was there I felt that my presence was bothersome to the service people and that they just wanted me out ASAP. According to the papers they gave me they didn't even bother to check half of the things I asked them too. They claimed to have fixed the noise issue I brought it in for but clearly didn't as I found out immediately after pulling out. Lucky for me it was a simple problem I overlooked and corrected myself.

I bought mine from Liberty up around Farmington Hills but I'd like to avoid the drive and keep it local if I can.

as stated by many others i contacted my dealership i bought my sonic from and they said this was not an active recall. But did state that if i wanted to setup an appointment to come in and show them what my car is doing they would try to pinpoint what is causing my sonic to bogg when the a/c is on. The dealership i bought my sonic from is a very reliable place and has a staff that is very eager to make your life much more simpler. So i will try to get to the bottom of this for you guys if i can and any information i gather from this i will post on here. I plan on setting up an appointment for next thursday. I need a car that runs good with or without the a/c on. especially when we went 2 weeks straight with 100-110 degree weather a couple weeks ago. Will keep you all posted!

Im in Norwalk,Ohio. But the dealership i've been going to because the ones here in town are a bunch of rude you know whats is in Willard, Ohio. Its Sharpnack Chevrolet II 1330 S Conwell Ave · State Route 224 · Willard, OH 44890. http://www.sharpnackdirect.com/ They are really good people there and they care about what they do and how happy you are when you leave. Best service i have ever gotten from a dealership! I just setup an appointment for Next wednesday to have my sonic checked out. I will get to the bottom of this A/c Problem!

Does anybody with the AC trouble notice any problems with the AC off? As far as I can tell mine is OK as long as I'm not running the air conditioning. Maybe this engine really is just incapable of running decent with the AC load. Are there any 1.8 owners out there that have no trouble with the AC on?

I just keep the revs up, no bog above 3 grand. You can ***** foot this like a V8 and bumble around below 2k rpm. This is why I went with a manual transmission.

I have manual 1.8 and I have zero issues. I usually drive 70 so that's about 3000 on the tach. I can tell when the compressor kicks in but not "power draining"

We shouldnt have to high revv it when the a/c is on just to get it to move! The higher the revv's, the more fuel you use and less MPG. Which would defeat the purpose of having a car to get BETTER gas mileage. That is what everyone is complaining about with the 1.8 engines. It shouldnt bogg when the a/c is on. thats it. and it shouldnt matter if its a manual or automatic. and not everyone likes to drive a manual. or know how. I prefer the automatic because it keeps your hands on the wheel and less distraction. I will know more about this A/c Problem this week. i have an appointment to have it looked at.

The smaller and lower power for a given RPM the more the engine is going to bog down. Yes, newer systems are more efficient and consume less power than the older systems, but they still consume a lot of power. I can feel a reduced power with my car when the AC is on, but i learn to drive within the power level if I do not want to turn off the AC.
