Went to the dealership Saturday and found out today that Chevy authorized the trans to be replaced. Most everything went well as far as my last visit was concerned except for the tech that actually looked at it. His name was Matt Cannedy and he was suppose to ride with me so I could ensure that he heard what I was hearing from the trans. This is what the dealer and I agreed on because the first time I took it in they told me the noise was caused by a vacuum leak caused by a rocker arm. First problem was he didn't take me with him on the test ride but not that big of a deal because he came to the conclusion that it was in fact the trans that was the problem. But the bigger issue happened when he got back from the ride. If you look in my garage you will see a custom hockey puck shift knob in my sonic. When he walked back in to the showroom where I was I saw the puck in his hand. Let me tell you this before I get into what happened next. As I have mentioned before I am an ICAR certified body technician so the install on this piece was done properly and by a competent professional. I used a generous amount of 3M double sided foam tape secure the puck to the modified factory shift knob(same stuff they use to put molding and trim pieces on the exterior of a car that holds up to wind speeds over 100 mph). I have been driving with the mod for 3 weeks now and it hasn't moved a
bit!
I myself even tried to forcibly remove it a few hours after the install to ensure it was solid and would be safe. Mind you I didn't rip on it like a barbarian but I made
sure it was
secure. I did this because I am well aware that if it came off while driving that this could present a safety hazard. When I saw it in his hands I immediately asked him what happened to my puck and he said it fell off. I then asked how hard was he ripping on the shifter and his attitude took a turn for the worst. He told me, "ya know what you aren't even giving me a chance to explain so I'm done, you can talk to my manager." and his tone went from normal conversation to angry and combative as he said it. I told him I asked you what happened and you explained that it fell off. I said I know it didn't just fall off and that you had to be ripping on it for it to come off(see above). He raised his voice again and told me it was a safety hazard because you couldn't see the gearshift pattern and that you could put the car in reverse without knowing it. At which point i called b.s. because the car has a safety device that prevents you from "accidentally" shifting into reverse. As far as the shift pattern goes there are many shift knobs out there that don't have the shift pattern on them and they aren't deemed unsafe. Mainly because if you don't know the shift pattern then you shouldn't be driving a stick its not an 18 wheeler after all

. This guys was completely unprofessional and went from 0-100 as far as his bad attitude was concerned in the blink of an eye. I was incredibly mad and couldn't believe the way he treated me. I wont lie I did have a few choice words for him(my inner drill sergeant came out a bit) but I believe it was completely justified. I do not allow people to treat me with the disrespect that he did. I am former Army Recon and I refuse to allow people to walk all over me because if you do they will continue to do so. I am thankful I can control my anger in these types of situations and be tactful in my response because with the extensive training I have I could have really hurt this guy if I wanted to. And believe me a big part of me wanted to but I know that would only make
me feel better and not help the situation. RJ my service coordinator was incredibly professional and took over the situation when he saw it go south and I cant speak highly enough of him. He saved the day as far as my overall experience was concerned and told me he appreciated how calm I was about the whole situation. The trans is being replaced there but it will be done by a trans specialist that doesn't work for that particular dealership. This is good because I don't want Matt Cannedy anywhere near my car ever again let alone servicing it. Overall a good experience except for the tech that diagnosed the problem that I already was already aware of. But ill stop ranting now and just say that I can't wait to get her back and running the way she should.
