So far, so good adding OEM cruise
I still think it will be possible to do this for fifty bucks... add the factory cruise button, plug, and play... instead of that miserable stalk setup that requires drilling, obviously weakens the steering support structure, and is doomed to work loose.
Held my breath and sucked in my balls and reaching up behind top of it with screwdriver, pried/popped the steering wheel pad on my base Sonic off... waiting for airbag to go off but no bang.
There ARE two unused whatchacallits (not just NOT a mechnic, clumsy and blind) sitting loose in there...rectangular plastic female pin connectors... one reddish, one white... wired down through center of steering wheel and shaft. I'm gonna assume red one is for cruise and other more complicated for audio, though the one thst appears to be for cruise only has I think two pins in it which seems odd.
Will try to see if the inexpensive cruise button (that looks like it just snaps on to left edge of horn pad with escutcheon) in GM parts catalog Sonic pages comes with the short connector harness to meet that or if separate part.
Sheet, wonder if it would actually be simpler to try hooking up the audio side just for shyts and giggles first as it likely is direct connect to radio head bypassing ECM (not needing speed, rpm, brakelight, and accelerometer inputs)
Feedback/advice from someone who actually knows something welcome before I fry the ECM or set this terminally dull but practical vehicle on fire.
OFF TOPIC I went to adjust mirror for first time tonight and Onstar emergency greeted me from all six speakers (DID get the $350 audio upgrade). I explained and thanked them and they were amused.
