Add Cruise Control?

I knew the bcm was the same. What i'm wondering is if i put in the harness for the cruise that sits behind the horn cover and the buttons that go into the wheel if it can be flashed and then recognize the cruise after a reprogramming.

Are you installing the hardware for the cruise control yourself?

No, i'll be having the dealer do it. I have not the knowledge on something this new. Its only like $100 in labor to see if it will actually work

i dont see why not, if they are all the same thing why cant they just turn it on? thats all you had to do on other gm cars was install parts required and turn on the settings

i think its more of does the tech know were to turn it on then if it can be done that was one issue i saw when trying to add on my cobalt.

GL after parts you shouold only have to pay an hour to flash, thats what my gm was gonna charge for a 5 min job lol

Just if we the owners had the necessary computer programs and knowledge, it'd be a lot better knowing that you yourself have checked every last possibility. But it is what it is, GM just doesn't want owners doing this sort of stuff on our own.

i wouldnt want ppl messing with the ecm/bcm either i leave that to the pros

I see your point, if it was something any owner could change, that'd mean that any small garage would be able to likewise and you don't always know if they know what they're doing.

How is it the parts are only $60? I've looked at the replacement parts catalog online and I think a new steering wheel was like $65 if bought online but MSRP of $105 but you would still need the cruise control module itself, right?

not only that but if you could get into there and mess with setting you could do any wide variety of damage by turning something off on accident or changing a value ect.

And that is the last thing you want to happen to a car, as I suppose, it could render it un-drive-able. On top of that, I'm sure it'd be easy to make a mistake if the interface of it is not very user-friendly

i'm not buying a new steering wheel. I'm only buying the left switch and wiring harness that goes behind the airbag/horn.

Ok, that makes more sense. I didn't realize that the panels that the switches replace on a non-cruise steering wheel were removable

I agree. You can insert anything in anywhere so long as you have enough lube and ram hard enough.
