Doh!
I'm also interested in adding cruise control but there's some humor here because I saw the stem that controls the electronic display which says "Reset" on it and thought the car came with cruise anyway. Someone told me they came with a lot of extras and worth the increase over the Versa, so I assumed that was one and didn't test it out.
I think you're right about not opening up the programming so that other mechanics could mess it up. Just like Apple didn't open up the iPhone to other developers and that's why it failed so miserably and Blackberry is still king.
So far the Sonic has been great (2k miles) except for the piece of plastic cover on the inside of the door handle came off, and the cover of the driver's side mirror popped up a little and a wire is sticking out towards me. Probably because the dealer (Lash Chevrolet) slapped the mirror to show me how cool it was that it was on a hinge. I was so impressed, I'd never seen that kind of technology before, wow, good job Chevy. But he was too busy getting ready to screw me with a $250 documentation fee, and coaching me on how to answer the survey with "Very Satisfied" on each answer.
But you expect that kind of low quality crap from the 2nd cheapest sedan on the road, and especially from something assembled in Michigan where bad football lives. I could take it back to the dealer and have the bumber to bumper cover those fixes, but I have to find a time to schedule it. Got a new car so I wouldn't spend so much time working on it.
But I absolutely have to have cruise, it would be great on the steering wheel. Let me know if someone figures this out. Is there any way to see the code that they use to program that module? It couldn't be too hard once you got into it.
Bob Lutz is a pompous, stuffed shirt, prideful idiot and if you watch the PBS Special on the electric car, you can't believe that guy has a job, much less runs a good portion of GM.
