The experiment with the Sonic cruise parts did NOT work.Although the BCM hardware supplies the 12 volt reference for the switch....the cruise control operating software is not in the BCM. I have a dealer contact that spoke with the GM.....the cruise add on is currently not supported and the operating software is not available at this time. The only supported add on is the fog lamp kit.
The GM parts catalog only shows 1 BCM part number for all Sonics.A new module comes blank and has to be programmed with operating software that is VIN specific.Also....new networking technology does not allow for module swapping with other vehicles.
It appears the aftermarket system takes place of the BCM and communicates directly with the ECM through the GMLAN.
It looks like the aftermarket cruise is the only option for now.
IT would be nice if it was possible to install cruise control. I didn't realize how much I miss it on long trips. Is it even possible to install it ?
Grand Valley State University has won a couple of national football championships.
Univ of Mich has won more football games than any other collegiate program.
Bob Lutz is retired and has been for some time. I know he is still a consultant, but nevertheless he is retired.
I agree with Sonic: if you want cruise control buy a car with cruise control, but whether you buy one with or add one later, why you would want to publicly whine about your life decisions is beyond my understanding.

it could be very easy to install cruise control i'm a tech at gm and was looking at the schematics and it would very easy just a question of is it prewired or are you going to have to run the wires through the sir coil to the bcm sometimes the put the connectos their just in case but i havent had many sonic air bags off to check i own a sonic ls i talked to the parts man and he said their is only one bcm for all the sonic trims so if gm will let you program it, it would be very easy buy the switch and bezel remove the airbag and trim cover and install may have to wire to bcm or may not but it is very possible to do it oe style
been doing some research you would have to replace the clock spring there are 2 of them a 6 circut and a 14 circut spring and thats about 75 + the 30 or 40 in switches and then just runing the lighting circuts and control circuts so its possible but probaly run about 200 dollars in parts and programing if needed
Huh?
