Clutch pedal clicking

Mine too

Mine has been clicking intermittently starting at purchase, but has become more consistent (I'm at 4400mi now). Taking to dealership for oil change on Saturday and will have them address this clicking while there. Hopefully this will be a 'one-and-done' issue.

**Update 11-24-12: They are ordering an "F-cylinder" under warranty. Not sure what that is, but when I get it installed next week I'll have part numbers, and maybe a diagram of what they're replacing.

That's how much mine moves too. Fulcrum points are the hinges of the assembly - where the pedal assembly connects to the underside of the dash.

Has anybody been told about a redesigned pedal assembly? My dealer told me he's waiting for a new assembly so it can be installed to correct the clicking noise. This was 2 weeks ago.

Clicking clutch pedal update

The dealer received the part last week - brought it in today to have them replace it. HOWEVER, just found out that they didn't do it because they do not have the correct brake/clutch fluid (I think they use the same reservoir) and it needed to be shipped from Michigan. Waiting until next week to get this fixed.
At least I can still drive it while waiting for the stuff to arrive!
Speaking of common reservoir, does anyone notice if stopped and idling (say, at a stoplight) with the clutch in and foot on the brake, that the brake pedal sometimes fades? Don't know if it's me or the car, and can't say that it happens all the time...

Don't know if I would say it fades, but I do feel an increase in vacuum which causes the pedal to drop more (also increasing brake pressure) which I assume is from a combination of the turbo slowing and butterfly valve closing which increases vacuum to the master cylinder.

The clutch and brakes sharing the fluid reservoir doesn't have any effect on anything.


Not for nothing but I would be very annoyed if a dealer made me wait while they ordered a part and then realized they forgot other things like fluid to go with it. Its a bit obvious that a hydraulic clutch requires fluid and anyone doing the job who gave half a damn would check to see if they had the required fluid in stock.

No argument there. Granted, this is probably the first one they've had this issue with, but they are giving me a courtesy car each time, and it isn't that much of a pain to get there and back. No $$ out of my pocket, so I'm not making a big deal of it. They know they have egg on their face.

Oh I agree, and I don't think you have much choice. Unfortunately if you make a big stink all its going to get you is worse service. :blankface:

There is nothing special about the fluid requirements for the Sonic; read the cap or the owners manual; like a prior post states; use only dot 3 fluid: (Only the most commonly used brake fluid in the industry) available everywhere!

This is going downhill...

Well, I dropped it off this morning since they got the "special" fluid in that they needed. The SA called before noon and said it was done, and that it went like clockwork.
When I went in to pick it up, however, the SA pulled my car around to the drive, got out, and said he was putting me back in the rental, that the problem wasn't fixed. I tried it myself, and it was WORSE. Needless to say, my confidence in this facility's competence dropped a few notches. Believe you me, I will be checking this one out with a tech in the passenger seat before I sign off on it, when it gets done.
The SA said there was a TSB on this issue and the fix is replace the clutch master cylinder (#96887800). Several hundred dollars and 1.5hr labor. Glad it's the warranty covering this and not me.
I should've lubed the clutch fulcrum myself!
Will update as this progresses...

Got my car back...

Picked it up this evening -
I'm told that the clutch and brake system needed to be bled again and they "reclipped" the clutch pedal - don't know what that means - but it have it back. Test drove it in the parking lot at the SA's urging. The clicking is, well, pretty much gone, but there still is a rather 'muted' or quiet click. Certainly better than yesterday. Discussed it with the SA, and we agreed that I'll drive it for a while and see if it goes away or gets worse. Not completely satisfied, but I guess it'll have to do for a while. My biggest concern was the play or slop in the travel, because yesterday it was really bad, but it seems just like it was new.
Driving home I heard the pedal squeaking a bit. I think I'll climb under the dash and see if there's something I can apply a little lithium grease to. My experience? Meh, irritated at their inability to get it done (and get it right) in one shot, but at least it's done for now. Read up on Lemon Law just in case...

My 2013 started clicking tonite... 400 miles..1.4 6 speed... Is there an official fix yet? TSB?

Is this noise more of a click or a squeak? My clutch squeaks so loud you can hear it with the radio on 15-20

I had the click and squeak both and it was especially bad when the heater got it hot. Second time to the dealer and they replaced the pedal (not sure exactly what was replaced)...the squeak is gone and the click greatly reduced. I'm happy.

Me too....

I just bought a leftover 2012 LS and the only issue I notice about the car is the clutch pedal is a little sloppy and it clicks as well....feels like it clicks as soon as freeplay at the top is gone...about 1" into the travel.

Does anyone have the TSB # for this?
