I was also wondering about the sturdiness of the heat shield. How exactly is it mounted? It looks like a real good intake, but if the heat shield rattled it would drive me insane.
Any updates on a 1.8L CAI? Highly interested...![]()
Still no progress on the 1.8L intake, need to get a car here, although I see a GM loaner might be in the cards next month if we can not find anyone to stop by.
Also we did get pricing for all of the parts and it looks like we will be introducing the intake for $250 to Sonicownersforum members. Retail is going to be $275 and that is for the intake with filter and the heat shield. The heatshield will come in black powdercoated finish, and the tubes will be a polished aluminum, with powdercoated options for $30 extra. More information coming...

The heat shield is pretty sturdy, it attaches to the chassis of the car using 2 bolts at the engine mount and then has a 3rd attachment point on the fender of the car. I would say it is easily more secure then the stock intake box. Also anywhere that the intake is close to sheet metal or to hard lines there is rubber edge molding to help seal and keep the shield from rubbing against anything.
Hope that helps,
Dave
That sounds pretty good. Something someone else mentioned was using the heat shield as a mounting surface for an Oil Catch Can. I thought this was a good idea too due to limited space, do you think the heat shield would stand up to having something like that mounted to it?
It should hold up to something being mounted to it just fine, as long as its not a 10 pound weight or anything. The shield bolts to 2 of the engine mounts and a 3rd mount on the fender.
anything diffrent with mpg on stock tune?
