Actually the Sonic is now getting more development time then MINI's and Miata's combined, we love the car, it is one of the daily drivers around here. With some of the modifications we have been testing on it we have created a fun to drive car that gets great fuel economy.
It is a bummer that it is taking longer to get these intakes out then we originally planned. Hopefully you received the email I sent over explaining that the production tubes that we received were different from the prototype tube.
If not, here is where we are at -
The production tubes took 2 months longer then they should of and when they came in, the bend radius, the bend angle and the MAF location were all slightly different from the prototype sent out. These slight difference are very important as slight differences in the placement of the MAF sensor in the tube, bends, etc. cause the ECM to read the amount of airflow differently, which causes the fuel trims to be off, and if the fuel trims get off enough, that is what lights the check engine light on the dash that many owners have seen with other intakes. So with the new production tube finally arriving, we had to get the intake on the car and put some miles on the car and see how the fuel trims reacted under a wide range of driving conditions. Once we saw that the fuel trims looked good, the next thing we had to do was go back and modify the drawings for the heat shield to match the new change in the production tube. Typically it takes 6 weeks from the time we send the drawings over for a new part for the part to be made, they are pushing the new part through production as fast as possible and we were supposed to have them today.
We strive to make sure that all of out products are the best they can be before sending out the first one.
Thanks,
Dave
