Oh my bad, sorry for coming off so harsh, wasn't intending to cuz I thought you had the same setup (open cat). So it sounds like you got rid of the resonator but kept the muffler, well I did the exact opposite, the shop just welded on a new angled tip to my res so the exhaust heat goes to the ground instead of the underbody. Imho the Sonic don't need all that back piping & muffler. I'll try to take some pics or just wait 'till the meet, but I still might be running the open second cat by then (if I don't get stopped by cops before that lol).

Well let me tell you, after driving around with it as is, it's hella loud! It sounds really good outside, but inside it's almost unbearable. The drone inside the cabin is tremendous, everything shakes/rattles from it. It's especially obnoxious during takeoffs & low speed driving, but once you hit a certain higher speed/rpm it seems to quiet down & almost go away. At wide open throttle it's badass though, but you can hear the cat shaking & metallic noises underneath. I don't know if my car's trying to learn the open exhaust, but to me it just feels a 'lil sluggish down low now, like it lost some torque or something. The revs seem to climb slower too, kinda weird. Does your car feel like that too Tmo? If so, then it's just not me imagining things. Hopefully it gets better or I get used to the sound, but I doubt it!

you got me kinda confused, you say you are running open after the cat but they welded on a tip after the res. which is it?

here is a shot of mine i just took off the res and then put the bolts back on so i wouldn't lose them or have to worry about killing the studs.
there is nothing after that no res and no muffler just open after the second cat. I've been thinking about pulling the second cat off and having a turn down mounted on a flange (you can see the flange i want to mount this on just before the cat you see in the pic)

Yup, exact same setup as me. I was referring to the shop recommending an angled tip on my resonator (which I also have removed at the moment), so I went ahead & had them put one on for when I ever do put the res back on in the future. That way the hot exhaust gasses don't hit anything under the car since it'll still be underneath where it hangs at. Way too much cabin drone though, but it sounds sick from outside! How do you feel about everything I've mentioned earlier about this setup Tmo?

I've gotten used to the drone and the rattles went away after a few days. the throttle response actually seemed a bit better to me.

How can you get used to awful drone like that, I don't know if I ever will, & to think my car was super quiet before this lol! It may be better on a stickshift, but on an auto it's sluggish, hopefully my car gets used to it & kicks everything faster.

yeah maybe with the auto your just kind of stuck in the bad range on the tach, i can tell you my roommate hates me every morning at 6:30 am when i start up to leave for work. those cold starts are LOUD. come to think of it you have a bit more drone with the hb than the sedan, something like a bigger box for your subs...

i went to the bank the other day and left the car running when i went in ( my lady friend was in the car and wanted the ac on) i was parked about 15 spots away and the counter was an easy 20 ft inside from the front door and i could still hear it. its loud and i like it that way!

Yea this thing is really loud when cold idling and the rpms are high, I feel a tad bit bad when I'm leaving somewhere early mourn or late night haha.

I didn't think the drone was to bad until I threw on the ZZP downpipe. I have a change holder in my car and it was droning and vibrating so bad while accelerating before the engine was up to full temp that I literally took all my pennies that were vibrating and threw them out the window.

I have noticed a loss of throttle response at idle. The weird thing is that if I throw just my resonator on it smoothes out the cold idle and improves throttle response. Then if I remove it after a few drive cycles (back to open exh) it will run fine, sound pretty good, and idle well when cold. Then a few hundred miles later I lose my throttle response, it idles bad cold, and it starts to drone really bad.

Hopeing my revised tune will fix this

Hahaa awesome TmoGuy. There's a dodge with an aftermarket alarm at my work that i ve made a point and drive by everyday and set it off.

It chirps a few times everytime I hit the gas

Damn you must not have very sensitive ears cuz that drone is way too much, esp at certain rpm's. The rattling is unnerving also, I agree an angled tip would def help out with all that.

I have yet to set off some car alarms with mine, but it's very loud nonetheless & I know my neighbors are hating me right now since I come home late at night. I try to be quiet but the auto doesn't allow me lol!
