i'd say run the 8.5 up front and make it as driveable as possible.

I know people in the stance scene are trying to run as wide as possible in the front, but i think the 8.5 would look nice and clean overall.

That is definately the smartest thing to do...problem is I'm stubborn
I'm gonna play with the front for a bit and see if the 9.5"s are feasible with a little work .
This is my daily so the last thing I want is something that's undriveable for the sake of being the only guy dumb enough to put 9.5" wheels on a Sonic.

front wheels usually take brunt impact of any road bs and its a fwd car.

i've ran aggressive wheels on various cars. honestly on the sonic 8.5 on front will still look very nice.

i hate it when peopel do the same size all the way around and the camber on the front is all jacked up compared to the nice clean fitment on the rear. that and i absolutely hate seeing stupid stretch on the front and mild stretch on the rear. its usually the other way around or the same stretch on all 4.


sad to say the "stance" scene has gone in a weird direction. the original idea is clean and good fitment. a little agressive but not too much and the car should retain it's driveability.

it being your daily i say 8.5 and just be a good driveable car.

i have countless people i know completely jack up their rides because of more more more mentality. it's a daily and it's a great car. keep it looking good and classy instead of hammered up fenders like those honda kids =)

How big of a spacer do you think would be needed for it to clear the front struts?
Worst comes to worst, couldn't you put spacers, and roll/pull the front fenders or stretch the tires a bit more?

The struts are gonna need to move in order for the 9.5"s to fit. I need roughly .5". Half inch spacers are not a viable option. If I stagger the fitment I'll run 225/40/18 and 245/35/18. If I can fit the 9.5" under the front I may have to run 235/40s all the way around, and that may be more "stretch" than I can handle. I do not like seeing the backside of the rim.

I've never really worked on suspension before, so this is a camber question. If i had coilovers, the only way to adjust camber would be to purchase a camber plate? Could i get a quick explanation on what's adjustable and what's not from a set of say pedders?

Pedders allow you to adjust height, spring preload, and dampening stiffness.

They have no more camber adjustment than stock, which also has none.

You can adjust camber a little with cash bolts at the spindle. They allow play between the bolt and the spindle. There is no camber adjustment at the top mount, without modification. There is no stock camber plate.

sorry to ask yet another question, but how will spring load rate affect handling? and same with dampening, is that just overall stiffness?

Dampening is how quickly the strut/shock will absorb shock.

Spring rate affects how much give or flex the spring take over bumps or hard turning.

The half inch spacer isn't feasible because the wheel is already even with the fender, just like the photo I posted of the rear with the straight edge. I do not want it to stick out.
In regards to the suspension, the clearance isue is the strut body itself, not the perch. From what I've seen, the aftermarket coilovers have beeffier bodies. If the actual clevis, where the spindle bolts to, spaced the shock body further away from the spindle then it might be something I should look into.

I think the main reason why he said it was unreasonable is that the wheels would poke 12.7mm (.5 inches) past the fenders. (Since the current setting is already flush with the fender)

That's how I interpreted it anyways.

So my current thought is that I'm going to take two of the 9.5"s I have and narrow them by an inch. That will give me an 8.5" front that still has the mega lip of the 9.5".
I've researched the heck out of it, and it's nothing out of the scope of what I already do everyday. I've got to build a fixture for the lathe, and the parts for that should arrive near the end of the week. Ideally I'll be cutting wheels in two on Sat, but I'll just have to see how quickly I can get the fixture set up.

Depends on what kind of tire you run.

Here's 17x8 +30 with 205/45's on ZachTullier's car: (I think he did a little bit of fender pulling as well)

17x8 et 30 Rotiform NUE's (powder coated silver)

Pretty darn sure that says et30.

It would be SOOOO much easier...but no amount of pulling will make the wheels fit with a 1/2" spacer.
