The 1911 is huge compared to the keltrch. The 380 is what i want i think. I fire my friends some and love it for a little gun and far easier on my hands then the 1911

If ya get the 380 get the pinkie grip extenders unless you have really small hands. With those extenders I can get 2 fingers on the grip instead of 1 1/2. I love my keltec and carry it everywhere. At work it's my primary everywhere else it's my backup and my glock is my primary. The biggest thing to carrying a big gun is get a good holster for it makes a world of difference.

Get a Taurus M608 off gunbroker and call it a day. For home defense...it's tough to argue with an 8-shot 357 magnum. Revolvers are inherently reliable...and they never jam. These features come in handy when you're pulled out of bed in the middle of the night and half asleep.

38 and 357 actually the same, back in the day they rounded up the 38 spl for whatever reason and the name stuck. The bullet actually measures .357 not .38. The difference between magnum and special is the type and volume of powder. Magnums normally use longer barrels so they have slower burning powder than specials, the cases contain more powder as well. If ya compare a 38 and 357 or 44 sp and 44mag the cases are longer on the magnums due to the increased powder volume. The reason a magnum handgun can shoot specials is its designed to handle the stronger pressures of the mag cartridge at say 35k psi where as the special only puts out 25k psi.

The caliber is older than the 357 but it is still widely used and still a great caliber. They have the 38 +p now which adds some power to the old 38 rounds. I prefer 38 for target but 38+p or 357 for defense.

Revolvers don't jam like semi autos do an they need less care. I'm not saying to neglect it but if it site for 5 years in a dry spot it will still go bang a semi is more iffy. Now when a revolver does break its out till it sees a gunsmith no clearing a jam like with a semi auto. For someone just looking for a defense handgun and not hitting the range all the time get a good name revolver with a 4inch barrel. Run either 38+p or if you can shoot it accurately a low flash 357 round. Buffalo bore has great rounds for both 357 or 38+p. The 357 is more powerful but will also cause permanent hearing loss in a home with no ear protection hence why a lot of people go with 38+p. Some people will tell you about getting weak rounds so they dont penetrate the wall. Problem with that is they won't penetrate the bad guy either, get a good flashlight an learn to use it with your weapon. Practice and be positive what your shooting at, you don't need a weapon mounted light unless ya have a long gun. Just find a technique that you like with your flashlight and pistol and practice it.

I have a Kel-Tec PF-9 and it is far smaller and more compact than my 1911. It may only be a 9mm but with proper loads it will do the job. The PF-9 is snappy.

I need to get more CCI stinger for the .22 though. Its a potent .22 round and makes things a little more fun.

If ya go used just check it over and test fire if ya can, especially with Taurus. The Taurus are a 50/50 some are excellent others nothing but problems, my first 357 from taurus was junk traded in for another one that was same model it shoots perfect. Taurus is good for the money if you get a good one.

Don't let the 9 bashers get ya it's plenty powerful, especially when ya get the +p stuff. It's all about accuracy, I'd rather see a 9 in the head than a 45 in the gut, sure big rounds are fun but there's always a trade off between power and capacity.
