Yea, you'll have to use a heat gun, or open oven to heat/separate your lens housings.
(They replace the lamp units)
The resistors are there to stop you from getting a CEL.
basically the lamp system believes if the amps/resistance is too low that you burned out a bulb.
(Something designed to be helpful becomes a PITA)
My least favorite part is that switching to LED isn't just for looks, it brings down current draw. (yay!)
But putting in resistors literally burns away power as wasted heat so you're right back to square one.
